What prices are folks here paying to buy Tamiflu? I am looking to buy about 90 of them and my drug plan says my cost is $150 and they will pay $431.60.
Also anyone know if the gelcaps can be used for 8 year old kids or only the oral suspension? Thanks.
Actual prescription price for Tamiflu (90 caps): $396.59 - presuming all are written on one Rx.
Tamiflu pediatric is dosed by weight. It is not appropriate to give a child a full adult dose. For an average 8 year-old, expect about 60mg twice a day for 5 days. ($55.11 for a 75mL pack size at 12mg/mL - enough for 15 doses)
My drug plan will only cover 10 pill (75mg) pack per year inorder to get copay. I called wally world pharm and they said $83.85 for that 10 pill pack. I’ll probably pay 20 bucks per pack out of the 80, but at least a start I guess. Where is the best place to order by mail?
I purchased goldenpharma 6 doses for 579. and it oooks good to go.
While I had purchased Tamiflu without prescription in Europe a while back, had hoped to obtain more in case other members of my family might need it, through my doctor. He told me recently if the influenza became Pandemic it was going to be a disaster, then proceeded to tell me that the CDC does not recommend giving Tamiflu out before hand. Asked him if it would be available when TSHTF and he said probably not. Am I missing something here, or should I get a new Doctor?! Gave him copies of Dr. Woodson’s Preparing for the Coming Inluenza Pandemic, also his paper on why he (Woodson) was all for doctors giving Tamiflu to their patients. We shall see. In the meantime will try to obtain more on my own.. I know when and if it does happen, there will be people I will want to help if I can.. I am still trying to convert people regardless of hitting my head against the wall 9 out of 10 tries.. Maybe I am just stubborn, but I still want to try.
it would be interesting to see a chart, how Tamiflu-price evolves over time
Here in North TX I have been getting 3 packs a month (30 75 mg pills) for my copay of $35. Regular price is $96 a pack of 10 pills at Wallgreens.
Nautical Man @ 23:18--How about a link To Dr. Woodson’s advice to other doctors, advising them why they should prescribe Tamiflu to their patients. I read it once , but can’t seem to locate it now. thanks
Last week my doctor gave me prescriptions for the whole family because I told him about our plans to travel to Europe in the summer. Once you are over there and you get sick, good luck to find a doctor that will even SEE you on short notice, let alone prescribe Tamiflu. He thought that was reason enough to give enough for the whole family. My co pay was 16 dollars and I got one pack extra but had to pay 89 dollar for that. This was last week, asked the pharmacist: are lots of people buying it? Got basicly no reaction. In another pharmacy I asked: do you think Tamiflu helps against bird flu. He said: what kind of flu? He couldn’t give me an answer even after he looked in his big book for 5 minutes.
Sorry Busy in Bama, just saw this now. Dr. Woodsons advice to other Doctors on giving patients Tamiflu can be found at (tiny url)http://tinyurl.com/lomje Suggest anyone going to their doctors with the intent of getting a prescription for Tamiflu bring along a copy
In deciding how much you may need, better take a peek at the latest from Dr. Osterholm:
http://citypages.com/databank/27/1320/article14219.asp?page=2
“CP: The one easy-to-use drug that’s been shown to arrest H5N1 in humans is Tamiflu—
Osterholm: Well, that’s not really true. There’s no evidence that it makes a difference in H5N1 infection. I have a slide here showing that the case mortality rate in Vietnam was identical for those who got Tamiflu and those who didn’t. I actually believe Tamiflu could work, but the problem is, we’re applying it in the H3N2 [average seasonal flu] model. Seasonal flu grows up much slower in a human, so that if you get the drug into somebody two days after their onset, you can still have a pretty measurable impact on the severity of their illness and the likelihood they’ll have complications. With the H5N1 virus, the virus storm that precedes the cytokine storm is so remarkable in those first 24 hours that if you don’t have the drug onboard in those first 24 hours, it may only have limited impact.
The second thing is, we’re using the same dosage levels we use for H3N2 [seasonal flu]. This is a very different virus. We may have to double the dosage for twice the length of time. We have anecdotal data on people who got the drug early and appeared to do better, but then, after the typical five-day course was stopped, they died on day ten.”
There’s more to read at the link.
Thanks Nautical Man---I figured you’d be back.
Nautical @17:04-- Could’nt get that link to come up----
I see on other threads that tinyurl is down—I’ll try later.
Tinyurl is back up, just accessed Dr Woodsons report from my posting
Thanks Nautical,--just what I was looking for.
Bought my Tamiflu a month or so back from a recommended company in England, shipped from Prague, Czech Republic. Price was about $65 per pack. Should have bought more, now that my doctor has shot me down, it is no longer available through the previous company. No doubt some suppliers are gouging, but a careful shopper should pay a reasonable amount.
