Purpose
The likelihood of a flu pandemic is before us all. People who post on this forum attempt to persuade others to prepare for this disaster. The magnitude of the problem is such that the average individual sometimes finds it difficult to believe that recommendations made by the people who post on FluWiki are from credible individuals. The survey shown below will be used to document the demographic characteristics and the opinions of the people who post in the FluWiki Forum through March 2006. It allows one to asses the backgrounds and the opinions of the individuals who post here. This survey is a community effort with items from several people.
Directions
Are shown in the next panel.
Results
Data will be collected from Sunday March 26 through Wednesday March 29 (midnight). The results will be tabulated and a summary will be placed here. A complete report will be sent to the moderators and filed in the Wiki. The report well not contain any personal information from any one individual and might look some thing like the following:
There were xx people who responded to the survey. Respondents were composed of xx (%) female and xx (%) male. Other demographic characteristics are displayed in Table One.

bumped
I will bump this every few hours to try to keep it where it is seen. If I am gone for more than a few hours help would be appreciated.
looks like I am first here.
Today’s date (03/26/06)
After the excellent advices given by readers over the last couple of days, I just filled it out and emailed it. Took less than ten minutes. I hope this will get a good response and that JoeW will offer us his analysis and conclusions. Cool.
(Still a bit of tweaking that could be done on some of the questions, although I’m not privy to the strategy of the survey. For instance, is there any relevance to the age of my siblings, when they live 300 and 400 miles away, are in their 40′s, and won’t be a part of my household or planning? Nonetheless, I filled it out.)
One of the posters had / has an interest in the age grouping of people who prepare. Someone else suggested that preppers may be first born. The results will be posted here and in the Wiki. Thanks for responding by email.
JoeW - ahh, very neat. I guess I shouldn’t spill the beans.
Thanks Joe! It will be so interesting to see the results. My answers have been e-mailed. I’m wondering if on another survey(?) you could ask about companion animals and livestock; how many do you have and what kinds, what are you doing to prepare them, what changes have you made, do you/could you see your animals as a threat, as protection or companionship while ‘holed up’?
Nice idea bird-dog. We (collectively) never thought of that one. BTW Email received and there are now 11 participants.
Wayne there are no hidden agenda here (not that you thought there were). We are simply trying to create a collective presentation. So far this is a pretty sophisticated group and people are forthcoming. The results appear to exceed the expectations at this point.
JoeW – at 11:08
Nope - I’m very interested in seeing the results. And willing to participate in future surveys too.

current count is 74 surveys sent in. At my last count an hour ago there were 21 male, 33 female (9 unknown from email name)more later. We have more occupations posting here than most of us would imagine. There are a lot of prepared individuals. There is no attempt at a stat analysis yet so I have to use words like “a lot.”

All the folks I see participating so far (by the posts) are the same who participate in regular threads-

JoeW - I’ll have a crack at this as I support your cause, but for future surveys I’d suggest you use one of the many survey engines available on the Web. It is a lot easier to complete a well designed form (=more replies) AND easier for you to compile and analyze data.
Did you get it. I never know if I do these thing right. Sent it Sunday.
Don’t be scared, do you really think your important info will fall into the wrong hands?? Who cares how old you are etc. It’s just a graph, join in!!
