Forum: Cooperative Thinking Exercises

There’s this “flashmob” idea, whereby someone(s) invite the others around some topic and places. This might work. Let’s just “search” for the word “water” in this wiki and elsewhere, and selforganise (or organise each other) around that. Do that for a week. Rinse and consolidate. Focus on something else for another week (yes, some people will stay fixated on water, so be it!), etc.

The aim for each week might be:

• look at facts (how do water systems work, how much water is needed for what purposes, etc)
• look at dangers (what exactly might fail in a pandemic situation)
• look at the alternatives (how to protect present systems, what other ways to have basic water, then more water, then all the water you can dream of, etc)
• look at the practical steps (create a template so we may suggest local authorities what to do, exactly; contact other groups so that we may reinforce each other; etc)

It might be a biweekly thing at least at the beginning.

The sequence might be what Dr Nabarro suggested: “water, power, food”. I believe “internet” (or “communications” more generally) is the next priority in line (right after “power” on which it depends).

We could of course run these parallelly, but I don’t think we have the (wo)manpower right now. And we may want to learn from the first “cooperative thinking” exercise first.

Could we invite others? Maybe even people who are knowledgeable about water but who are not concerned about a flu pandemic? Just *who* in our networks might help us all?

We can print the apropriate thread (“water” is only the first one and there will be others if we’re successful) and use the printout to discuss locally (maybe doing a focused “open space” 1 2 with the theme how can we best prepare our (local) water systems for a pandemic?) and then bring back comments and ideas!

The first exercise at http://www.fluwikie.com/index.php?n=Forum.CooperativeThinkingWater has worked well in my opinion. We’ve helped Monotreme and others to actually make the Water Supply? page better: focused and helpful for those who care to look.

On 28 February, just a week after we started, we reviewed what was missing, so that now we know we can build on what Monotreme and others did.

I personally feel uneasy when I hear “thankyous” when I do something I strongly feel must be done, but THANK YOU, Monotreme and all!

Now, Water Supply systems could use some … Energy!
