A continuing series… ask your site questions here.
IV?!? Oh my…whatever did I do?
Bill,
It’s a good thing.
:-)
I was telling my husband about the ugly words between Dr. Niman and anon-22 and that Niman was banned and then he flounced over to FluTrackers where he wrote the clearest message yet about recombination — it seemed like he was trying, very, very hard to help people understand how he is seeing things — and then up pops anon 22 with nasty toned questions.
Why, anon 22, are you badgering this guy on another site? His tone on flutrackers was NOT AT ALL offensive. He was clearly sharing the best he knew how. I know some of his stuff here has been snarly, but over there, not at all. It made you look vindictive and silly.
My husband asks “so, we move from flu news to flu soaps?” I don’t know what to tell him. I’m trying to get him to take H5N1 seriously but he has reservations about the maturity of the people that I am quoting so earnestly. Moderators, please, please don’t use nasty tones in your writings. We don’t need reasonsfor people to tune you out.
Not sure where to put it, and you probably already know, but news thread just got really freaky, coding showed up and the launguage changed at this point TreasureIslandGal – at 10:18

This is how it shows up on my computer:
Feeling very uneasy about Indonesia.
We had so many cases popping up every other day, in multiple regions of the country, then all of a sudden “nothing?” -this just doesn’t make sense. The turning point of information seemed to come about when the 1 (or 2) reporters became ill and there was a suspiscion of H5N1. About that time, there were no more cases discussed anywhere.
Does anyone else find this very implausible? WHO gets “kicked out” (though they claim they were done anyway) of the area where the big cluster was, and media seems to grind to a halt throughout the country.
Normally you would think…”Yippie! They finally did something about it! They must have culled, or succeeded with a huge education campaign!” …but if Indonesia suddenly had no new cases or suspected illnesses, don’t you think they would be patting themselves on the back by now? Wouldn’t there be lots of media pointing out their huge successes? Wouldn’t the gov’t initiate lots of informative news bits to reassure their neighbors to help regain credibility and stave off economic losses?
No news just doesn’t sound like good news. It seems quite ominous to me. The disease didn’t just declare some holiday for itself and decide to not be active anymore.
its back to normal on my computer now, but it was wierd.
Kim—it may be that your browser just got confused when it refreshed. Mine (Internet Destroyer..er, I mean Explorer) does that more often than not. And not just on FluWiki. :-)
I do not post on here often, though I come here every day to get the helpful insights of the posters here. (Thank you all!) Something just struck my eye when reading this thread. It is for questions for the moderators about the site.
When I got to Olymom’s post it was not a question for the mods, but on the topic of Niman and anon_22. I am not discussing the content here, only the fact that it seems to be an inappropriate post for this thread. (No offense, Olymom, I am only trying to figure out how forums work; this is new to me.)
My question for the mods is this:
I know this is pretty basic stuff, and I hate to waste your time, but I want to make sure I know the proper etiquette for posting. Thank you.
rutsuyasun,
It’s an “Ask the Mods” question.
By the way, anon_22 never posted at Flu Trackers. Someone else either quoted her or attributed something to her. I haven’t seen the post in question. None of us have the time to read the other flu boards;-)
We don’t generally move things because it is awkward to do on this software.
Melanie. I had a look. It looks like Dr. Niman posted the whole thread verbatum from flu wiki…therefore, all posts including annon 22′s was listed.
Tom DVM – at 14:50
Thanks! That’s helpful because that question came up on one other occasion.
rutsuyasun – at 14:39
Thanks for asking. This is the perfect place to ask Forum netiquette questions. One thing to remind even experienced bulletin board users is that the rules and norms vary from place to place. Don’t assume all the rules in place A will be the same as place B. It’s like travelling from the US to England and assuming you know how to drive because you can speak the language. ;-)
Our rules and norms are up on the left sidebar.
OK, I’ve not had time read post/read much on this forum (or any forum) recently, so can I ask is someone saying that someone else is writing at Flutrackers using the same handle as me? If that’s the case, let me clarify that the only places that I have written to are fluwiki, effect Measure, and CE a while back. Not anywhere else, ever.
Just so you know whoever it was, it wasn’t me.
I’ve got better things to do!
anon_22 – at 16:45
I think Tom’s explanation is the correct one.
Wow, It never occurred to me that there might be an anon-22 doppelganger. My apologies. (I hope it wasn’t done to make anon 22 look bad — cause it surely did)
The plot thickens.
I will lurk more and worry less.
Olymom – at 00:44 --- It wasn’t even a doppleganger. It looks like Niman copied and pasted that whole thread into his comment over there. The thread included postings by Anon_22, and several others, so…the plot just got as thin as chicken soup! ;-)
Don’t lurk more…post more. Don’t be afraid to post…and it’s okay to worry. Some.
I have some questions about bumps. I have figured out that bumps are done to prevent a thread from sinking into oblivion, right? When it is appropriate to bump, and is bumping strictly the domain of the moderators, or can anyone bump? And finally, do any of the moderators know how to do the bump? (Just kidding!)
Wikians are awfully quick to jump to conspiracy theories.
Edna Mode,
If you read the threads, you’ll see that anyone can bump. Do it when you see a worthy topic which deserves more attention.
I used to be able to do the bump, back when my back still worked.
Thanks Melanie. I thought anyone could bump, but it seems as if there is a regular group who do, thus the question. Thanks again.
I do a lot of thread-bumping in the evening, but then again, I’m an irregular group! :-)
bump anything that interests you!
Have a happy holidy, US readers.
Hello mods :)
This may be a dumb question. With summer work and play many people have less time for wiki study. Will it be clear by a Seperate thread or main page reporting if the mods feel a pandemic has begun? Thanks
If that happens, we’ll be screaming it with red headlines. For right now, we are all planning on going on vacation in August.
Thanks I feel much better knowing that…..
malachi,
Go on vacation.
Melanie
edna, this is laura in pa. i am just a low-level reader of the forums. i help out with bumping because i really can’t contribute much to the wiki intellectually! i have started signing my bumps as “bumping for bill” so that someone can easily see that the last post on the thread is just a bump. sometimes i get overzealous in my bumping but i am trying to restrain myself-i’ll try to leave more for others to do. try it, it’s fun!
i really can’t contribute much to the wiki
Having read your posts, I’d take exception to that. ;-)
happy 4th.

DemfromCT: My e-mail to you should have read “does NOT buy me any more anonymity”.
Told you I was posting recklessly. Thanks.
That was me. I was bumping to move that thread down into obscurity last night, but anon_22 found it anway…
Sorry, but I saw my whole life exposed in that post and felt momentarily panicked and that was the only way I knew how to make it disappear when no mods were around. Bad reason to bump (I only bumped about 3 things that should have been bumped anyway), but Tom DVM did just call me sneaky…
Many Cats at 9:16: Many Cats, “sneaky” is just a pejorative for “clever”. Afterall, with a name like “Many Cats”, how could you not have learned a little something from your namesakes? Anyway, let me take the opportunity to say you live up to your moniker judging from the insightful “cleverness” of your posts…. ;-)
De jure: Thank You! Cats are some of the best teachers! :)
I have seen several post on different threads from Snowy Owl and someone else that says remove Tom threat. Any idea to what she/he is refering.Just curious. I looked back thru the threads and did not see anything unusual.

If you read enough, you will see the drift from that particular poster.
Melanie,My family just spent a glorious weekend on the shores of Lake Michigan, biking swimming and kayaking. We have plans for the next 2 weekends also.I am really excited about going to a huge music festival this weekend and if anyone is there they can take a folkschool class with my hubby and I on ginger ale making.
Where is the clock located that assigns times to the posts? Is it part of the Wiki intfrastructure, or is it based on the system clock of the lead moderator? It seems to be about 15 minutes ahead of Eastern Time (USA).
Thanks,
It does, and it’s a pogge question.
pogge is on-site with a client today. We’ll ask him to take a look at this tomorrow. The time stamp is set at the server.
Dennis - Thanks for asking this. I’d been wondering too.
Span on the North Texas thread again
thanks! It’s the ‘bots!
It seems to be about 15 minutes ahead of Eastern Time (USA).
Adjusted. Now to monitor and see how much time it’s gaining.
hehe…when you reset the clock, did you advance the date by one day? Recent posts show July 6.
did you advance the date by one day?
Not intentionally. The blessed thing’s haunted. Have I mentioned lately that I hate computers?
Thanks. Now to fix up the dates on these threads.
pogge - at 22:11 …Have i mentioned lately that I hate computers…
sorry, but…. LOL
Did I say that out loud?

It is nitpicking, I know, but would it be possible to change the thread title from “Recipes Using Canned Dry GOODS only” to “Recipes Using Canned Dry FOODS only”? “DRY GOODS” are cloth, clothing, and the like - distinctly not edible.
On a different question, an automatic computer time setting utility can be loaded and run from the [US] National Institute for Standards and Technology at
http://tf.nist.gov/service/its.htm
It has more decimal places than most people need, but is very convenient to use.
Thanks
Suggestions have been made to the moderators about changing the forum software but the feedback has not been clear. Broco Bill said “The software limits us to how we do things and there will be a change soon.” Can we get an update about where are we going (software pkg-wise)? I remember this was discussed in January after the crash. Is there any way we can help?
It may help to summarize the two purposes this site serves. The organization of reference information and discussions. While the pandemic subject is common to both it is possible the best software tool for each task could be different. The current use of wiki software works for discussions but there are more efficient tools.
These are interesting comparisons
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_software
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_collaborative_software (groupware)
it is possible the best software tool for each task could be different
And in the long run it likely will be. If you’re interested in comparing wiki platforms you might find this site interesting as well.
Where we are at:
1. finalizing the mechanism for raising funds - we are a nonprofit now. 2. reviewing soapblox and scoop software for the Forum 3. reviewing Mediawiki and one or two other final; candidates for the wiki
(One) needs to happen before (two) and (three).
I have a 7-page document on corporate planning I wish to post for review. I went to pmWiki but was unable to post anything there without a password. Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Dennis,
Go to the Wiki side, not to PmWiki.
But it’s true you can’t upload withgout permission, even on the wiki side. We do that to protect bandwidth, and to oversee copyright issues. Send it to demfromct@earthlink.net and tell me where you wanted it, or I’ll post it where it needs to go.
Email sent. Thanks for your help.
Got it… will post on “business continuity” later tonite. it’s one of our most widely read pages.
I’ve been working on a paper dealing with water issues applicable to pandemic flu preparation/response. I recently sent several questions to the CDC, and got a reply email containing substantive answers in a few days (we’ve gone away from referring to drops in our disinfection guidance; we’ll look into the inconsistency about whether drinking from swimming pools is “safe” or not). That was encouraging.
I expect it would be much more effective if the CDC issued a definitive set of instructions on point of use chlorination in the home or heat disinfection of water in the home rather than have it come from fluwiki. WHO provides similar guidance, but it’s aimed at people who don’t have access to Thermos water dispensers, free chlorine filter strips, or backpacking water filters.
So, I’m writing up what I’ve been able to find out on the web (with citations and questions), stating what I’d like to see in a set of instructions appropriate for pandemic flu preparation/response, and sending the document to the CDC (perhaps copied to FEMA & EPA). I’ll start with chlorine disinfection. One of the things I’ll be asking for is the scientific basis for parameters such as starting tsp Clorox per gallon, when to stop adding Clorox and discard the water, what a slight odor of chlorine really means, etc.
I’d like to get peer review of some sort before I send off the document. I didn’t get any response from fluwiki folks when I asked for volunteers to work with me on this project. I hesitate to post to the fluwiki at this point, since I’ve seen fluwiki links come up in Google searches and I’d hate to confuse the matter even more.
What do you recommend?
Mari,
I’d be happy to look your paper over, I’m familiar with the subject as a backpacker/canoist.
Mari— This document is a good survey of how chlorination works. Note the bit about chlorination being used as much to prettify water as to disinfect it. Note also the bit about trihalomethane formation if there is a lot of organic stuff in the water. This could be a problem with backyard pools, especially if they have algae in them. The more organics, the more likely you are to generate a lot of chloroform and other undesirable compounds. No good deed goes unpunished. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~dujs/1999S/09_Chlorination.pdf
Mari: I’d be glad to review stuff (don’t have time to generate something but I’ll take at look at what you’ve done). I know a fair amount about water issues, especially disinfection by-product problems. Do not worry about DBPs for this. They are a major issue in water supplies, but for long term use, not for acute treatment. But that’s a detail. You can email me at the address you’ll find at Effect Measure.
Mari, I’ve also done the same thing, and have a book here online at fluwikie.
I am confused. Dem, when you were referring to trolls on the Nickoli thread, do you think that anon WAS Nickoli? and that he still reads?
No, anon was a first and only time time poster. What a nice way to make an intro to this place. ;-)
I have no idea where Nikoli is or whether he’s reading the thread. If he is, there’s ample evidence folks care about him. But I don’t want his privacy violated and what else is there to say?
Dem, thanks for the clarification, I had wondered why the thread had been closed. I gather that no word has been heard from him and that it is time to let it go. He will respond if he can or wishes to.
Mike
Seems quiet, but we’re astill working behind the scenes on an announcement about software, servers and financing (all separate projects). Just to let you know, we’ll share news soon when we have news to share. ;-)
Hi. I am new to wikis, discussion boards etc. I have mostly been lurking for a couple of months. Thanks for all that you mods do… Are there any resources or discussion threads looking at influenza virulence and, in particular, the relationship between virulence and transmission efficiency. I spoke with an epidemiologist at the state level who said that when efficiency is improved, virulence is expected to drop. I have been wondering if this is scientific fact, historical knowledge or wishful thinking. Also, what is the ‘wiki side’? Thanks!
The wiki side is here.. you are in the forum. we have discussed the topic in various threads in the Forum (everyone’s opinion) but a more science oriented discussion is in the wiki, a more permanent repository of info. That section was written by some epidemiologists.
BTW, outside of the Forum, most of the links in the L sidebar take you to the wiki. Try the front page or wiki index for topics of interest.
DemFromCT Thanks for your response. I have a couple more questions… 1. Is there a place to look up who wrote a particular peice (on the wiki side)? 2. If ‘anyone can edit anything’, does that mean they can alter what someone else wrote, or only that they can respond to it?
1. Is there a place to look up who wrote a particular peice (on the wiki side)?
Unless the piece is signed, assume that it’s a collective effort. You can check at the bottom of the page to see who did the last edit and you can click on the history link (top or bottom right) for some idea of who’s done what.
2. If ‘anyone can edit anything’, does that mean they can alter what someone else wrote, or only that they can respond to it?
With rare exceptions (see below), the former though the editors will review changes and additions.
There are a few opinion pieces and a long fictional scenario that have been password-protected to prevent edits by anyone other than the original authors.
Edited because I’m an idiot and forgot what the asterisk does.
Is there much activity on the IRC chat? I thought I’d try getting on it just to see, but I’m having trouble figuring out how Trillian works. So unless the chat room is active, I’m going to abandon the effort. Thanks.
I don’t use it much, I can’t tell you who does.
I don’t care much for IRC because I can’t type. ;−0
Ain’t that the truth…..
Okay, good, I was tearing my hair out. Thanks.

Hello Mods, I have just put an item on News reports July 11 and my little table looks horrible. Would you kindly arrange it please, I tried, but I can’t. Many thanks.
FG,
I don’t have those skills but I’ll try to get the attention of pogge or Dem.
I gave it a shot; comment there if you want me to cahnge it.
I just printed an article by Maggie Fox at iol dated July 13 which states 100 US corporations have contacted Roche regarding the purchase of Tamiflu. Roche has filled close to 60 orders so far ranging from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of treatment courses. I guess the orders for hundreds of thousands of treatment courses are intended to be used as a prophylactic. The average citizen cannot even get Tamiflu for his/her family to be used for treatment. Can our government really allow this? Is this legal?
Fox is a good reporter. The bottom line is that if pandemic flu strikes anytime soon, there won’t be enough Tamiflu to go around. Whether or not it will be effective to do anything more than shorten the course of the disease by a day is an open question. Tamiflu resistent strains of the flu are already showing up in Asia. Don’t count on there being a “silver bullet” for this disease.
How can I get my email address to another member. My husband would like to meet up with anon_22 at a medical conference in new orleans. Not sure if he/she is going.
my email address is anon_22 (how original!) AT hotmail DOT co DOT uk. I’d be delighted to talk to your husband.
Anyone who wants to give out email addresses can put it in their profile.
anon_22:
If you can fly through DC, give me an eyell and we can do coffee or RWFK.

I only wish my company had the forsight to do this but based on my conversations with the Continuity of Business people, they don’t. I think this is a very reasonable thing for a company to do. If 200 of your key people come down with flu symptoms, why the heck would you not want a company doctor/nurse to be able to distribute Tamiflu to these people so they don’t die and take your company with them?
Of course I wish the average person could order Tamiflu, but we can’t so I’ve come to terms with that. People more important than me will survive the pandemic and I guess that will have to be good enough.
Melanie-
What has happened to Just a Bump?
Melanie,
Reduction of symptoms by a day or so is only the case for seasonal flu. Tamiflu does a lot more than that in H5N1 infections. In Turkey, those who had the drug by Day 3 survived, those who didn’t get it till Day 8 died. Every clinician who has been treating H5N1 patients report its efficacy in most instances if given early enough.
As for resistance, apart from 3 reported cases in Vietnam, one of whom survived, there has not been any others since January 2005.
It’s not a ‘silver bullet’, but then neither is almost everything else in life. There are no guarantees, just good benefit vs risk profile, IMHO.
lauralou,
Just a Bump in the Beltway’s server hosting company took us down after we got hit with a trackback spam attack on Wednesday morning. Thanks to pogge and Wiki friend Mike, we are moving to a new server and should be back up by tomorrow in a shiny, new space. http://www.beltwaybump.com There is a placeholder page there right now, but the familiar face should be live sometime tomorrow with the standard news and attitude.
Thanks so much anon-22 I will pass it on to him. he has been studing influenza the last two years in an epi program and is always amazed by the stuff i find on this site. we both really appriated the breakdown of symptoms you did in the treating children thread. sorry for the spelling errors i have a 3 year old on my lap and i’m a terribe speller as it is.
What is the significance of the posts containing just the text:
<u style=“display: none;”>… no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … no changes … </u>
Is it spam, or someone’s attempt at automated bumping, or ?
Thanks,
Spam, Dennis, and we take it down as soon as we can find it.
An email from a fluwikian to “help” us find it wouldn’t be out of line.
I was thinking we should have links to symptoms of infections in birds (animals?) and infections in humans right on the main page. It might be something people would want to know. “My birds are sick, or my kids are sick, how do I know if it is Bird Flu? What should I do?”
I am hesitant to edit that page. Is it ok to do?
fredness.
So, what are you waiting for?
The main page is password protected becaus of troll damage. Only the mods could edit that page, so, you’d have to create the page, then the mods would link to it.
Can someone please fix my “close brackets” error in my post to News July 15?
Thanks,
Melanie,
Glad to know you will be back-

Spam attack on “large scale prep encouragement” Thread!!!!!!!!!! <u style, that type spam.
Is it possible to post a thread after one sees such a spam? Or better to wait until it’s been cleared? Why do these things come up and what do they mean? I’m curious- I don’t have much experience with spam.
thanks, ocean2. well, it’s easier if someone bumps up the thread and put something like SPAM ALERT in the author box.
If you want to post on it, fine, just make sure you still do that, then we can see it on the ‘Last 50 changes’ page.
On the Tennessee thread, I clicked on the book link and got a link to XXX items. I have copied it here:

Link deleted. Thanks.
Can someone start a news thread for today please…..
Done
thank you!
Any thoughts on creating a recipe area (rather than threads) on the Wikie. Kathy FL and others have many great recipes and it gets harder and harder to find them among the many threads. I’ve begun the process of trying to use my dry preps and incorporate them into my daily cooking as we all should. Having a fixed reference for the info would be helpful.
While you’re at it, a recipe pdf of her prep totals would sure be nice. I can’t access the present one.
Some recipes are here. The Forum index is the easiest way to find things.
Would ya’ll post the question, wherever to get some feedback on why pandemicflu.gov no longer lists three (3) months of prescription medicines on their family/individual checklist. I’m interested to know why they removed the suggestion. Or, am I not seeing it somehow?
alas, pandemicflu.gov doesn’t take questions. ;-(

Melanie - I’m ready to send my water treatment document to you & revere for review. I have revere’s email from Effect Measure. How do I find yours?
Here is is, Mari. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Melanie, your email isn’t in your profile anymore. But I did find it on the Left Side Bar under About FluWiki when your name is clicked on under Publisher…top left side bar.
had this been clarified whether that was _the_ Snowy Owl, and had the problems been resolved ? Is he banned now ?
I believe it was ‘the’ Snowy Owl and no, he has not been banned. As to resolution, that’s not for me to say.
Just out of curiosity, why does Houston 6-Pack’s handle very often appear in a post as underlined with a red question mark after it? Is it something unique about the format of “Houston 6-Pack” that causes the software to think the handle is a link?
Not really important; I’m just curious…
Dennis in Colorado – at 22:49 --- I emailed pogge almost word for word the exact same question earlier today. He said he’s noticed it too, but hasn’t had a lot of time to look into it.
If Houston 6-Pack reads this, maybe he could try dropping the hyphen in his name and see if that makes a difference…Just change it Houston 6Pack…
Let me clarify that last line---“just change it to Houston 6Pack. I wasn’t making a demand by saying “Just change it H6P”!!
Let me clarify that last line---“just change it to Houston 6Pack. I wasn’t making a demand by saying “Just change it H6P”!!
And it’s NOT closed!!!
The following code is showing up in H6P’s posts, sometimes more than once:
[[~Houston 6-Pack]]
The software thinks he’s trying to create a link to a page in the Forum group named after himself and it’s also playing a trick with the formatting.
I think it’s something at his end just because I’ve never seen it before.
pogge,
Isn’t software fun?
No.
That sounds like one hot, sweaty Ontarian.
pogge---is it possible the she signed one of her posts with the tilde leading into her handle? Something like me signing here in the comments box with:
—Bronco Bill, but with a tilde instead of hyphen.
Then the software just remembered that as an author name? Just picking at straws here…

Delete yer cookies, clear yer browser cache, restart your browser (which browser are you using?), then come back into this thread and re-post with your handle as Houston 6Pack…
Sorry guys…..why is it doing this???
H6P,
Ask pogge about all the fond feelings he has for software. Follow BB’s suggestion.
I don’t believe it has anything to do with PMWiki at this point. It’s definitely something in whichever browser you’re using. Are you using Internet Explorer, Netscape, FoxFire, or some other browser? Do you know how to find out which version?

http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/PrintablePages/herbMonograph/0,11475,4102,00.html
The above link is for a native drug called pleurisy root.
This is what it is suppose to do.
Pleurisy root is named for its use by native Americans and settlers to treat pleurisy, which is inflammation of the membranes that line the chest and cover the lungs. Pleurisy involves pain and fluid accumulation in the chest. Because chemicals in pleurisy root may reduce the thickness of mucus and encourage coughing, it may have helped to relieve pleurisy and other respiratory conditions such as bronchitis. In addition, pleurisy root contains chemicals that may increase sweating, so it also may have helped to lower fever associated with infective diseases. Today, the medical uses of pleurisy root have been replaced by prescription and non-prescription drugs that are more effective.
Could I have your thoughts on this, in that over prescription of drugs may have rendered them less then effecive what this may not have the resistance of other drugs.
Your honest opinions are sought and welcome.

quick question
I was wondering if just anyone can post the news reports that are done daily.
H6P,
All of us are just regular folks. Try not to duplicate other stories, but, yes, everybody posts to the main news thread.
Oh, I definitley dont plan to post anything there:). I’m a reader when it comes to that thread….I just didnt know if they were ‘chosen’ to post….thank you for answering the question so quickly…
There are no “chosen” around here.
Glad to hear it…:)
Can I open an old thread once it has been closed?I would like to comment on the Pregnancy questions thread….
Malachi,
I don’t know how to do that. Let me see if I can get the attention of someone who does. Oh, pogge?
Melanie, in the case of opening a thread that has been closed- could a new one not just be started with a link to the previous thread- like the other part 2′s, etc. Then Malachi could comment on the new thread with the link for the sake of continuity. It might be simpler in the long run than re-opening an old thread, tho’ maybe I’m wrong there…IT not being my suit at all, never ming my strong one:-)
MaMa,
Good point and I’m obviously more IT clueless than you are.
Melanie, LOL!
Let’s just call that a draw:-)
The Pregnancy Questions thread wasn’t very long so I reopened it and bumped it. Or you can just click here.
It doesn’t take long to reopen a thread.
A closed thread that’s long should stay closed (start a new one). We will always entertain a request to reporen a thread. Sometimes, however, it will have been closed for reasons other than lack of interest.
Sorry if this has already been asked before. Why are the topics on the main page sometimes close together and sometimes far apart? It that some weirdness with my browser or is that something not weird with my browser?
Hi, Mods
I am trying to post a link on the thread “overwhelmed by it all” to a new thread by me “coping with your emotions during a pandemic”. It looks like there is no reply box on the “overwhelmed thread” as it seems to have run out of space. My new thread will hopefully generate discussions to build wiki guidelines on this topic. Should I have called it a wiki “project”? Please change my title to one that fits better if you think this would clarify better. Thanks for your help.
Science Teacher – at 16:10 --- Looks fine to me. (BTW---I’m not a Mod. I’m just here!) It’s a long thread, and is due to be split or closed soon, but for now, you should be able to get to the comments box at the bottom…
Thanks, Bronco Bill
I have retried the thread and can’t get to the reply and can’t find any of the last 4 or 5 posts that I noticied were posted there. I guess it is time to close or split.
I have another question, is a recent thread title considered a “wiki word” that will automatically link?
Science Teacher – at 16:59 --- Not sure what to say about not seeing the comment box. Are you on dial-up, or are you using high speed broadband? (DSL or Cable).
In order to create a link, you need to follow the instructions at the bottom of this page.
Type two left brackets like this one [
then type the entire URL address that you want to link to
then type a “pipe” like this | (that’s shift and the key above your Enter key)
then type the name you want to appear in your comment, like Link Here
then type two right brackets like this one ]
That will create your link in PMWiki markup language.
Thanks, I appreciate your help. I am on broadband high speed. After abount 8 tries I finally got the reply box, so maybe it was just my computer’s glitch. I need more practice in the sandbox before I can do links, but thanks for the info.
Link created.
ST,
This might be a browser issue. Try a different one if it happens again.
Thanks to both of you!
Bronco Bill, thank you very much for those clear, explicit instructions on how to create a link. I have always wondered how it is done. When I have occasion to try it out, maybe I’ll have the satisfaction of seeing it work. Thanks!
BBB,
Thank you, I finally got a chance to show someone else how to do ‘prevent formatting’!
Instead of that long explanation, you do this [= put whatever you want here =]
Now I’m going to hit ‘Post’ and see if this comes out right.
<anon keeping fingers crossed>
Yeay!! It did come out right!
<anon dances a gig around the room>
I made a note of that too, Anon. Thanks.
Thanks, Anon_22. I like that formatting a lot better…I think…
This thread is getting long, so closing and continuing it here
