Forum: Three Stage Business Plan in Development

Texas has its own underground activist! History Lover has been telling us in the Lone Star State thread how she’s been forwarding FluWiki postings to her husband, who has in turn been sending them on to TPTB at his workplace, which is a local health institution.

Apparently it is really getting their attention, because she just posted this. I thought it was so encouraging that it needed its own thread, both to give the rest of us hope that our individual efforts can make a difference and also to possibly spur more brainstorming and/or give others ideas of ways to do something similar in their own workplace. (I think something similar for schools & universities would be well worth the effort, too.)

Her post:

Good News - My DH and a colleague who is also very well-informed about Bird Flu have been told to prepare a Three-Stage Plan for their department which consists of approximately 60 people. My husband has asked me to help him with information, sources, and preparing an outline for these stages. We came up with this:

I. Education - Defining terms (Bird Flu, CFR, SIP, PPE, Preps, Social Distancing, etc.); describing bird flu symptoms and results; discussing National, State and Local Plans

II. Pre-Pandemic Action - This includes ordering gloves, masks and other hygienic materials for the office; having workshops on CPR, hygiene, and handwashing (I actually asked for and received a handwashing lesson from a nursing student the last time my son was in the hospital and believe me, there is a technique); practicing Social Distancing Techniques; and providing influenza and pneumovax shots.

III. Implementation - Should a pandemic occur, the office would implement certain measures. We are suggesting staggered work schedules, teleconferencing, no physical contact, working from home, etc.

I have e-mailed my DH some substantial information from several websites including WHO, the State of Texas, our city, the Red Cross, and Flu Wiki.

Well, as the Lone Ranger would say “my work here is done.”

Send her my notes from the Safe America Conference for Business

History Lover – at 14:09

Goju @ 13:42 - I have just printed your excellent notes from the conference which I read the day you posted them. At present DH has banned any more e-mails (I only sent him the sites from WHO, CDC, Flu Wiki, the Red Cross and a few historical articles) so I will show him this tonight. He’ll want an e-mail copy after seeing this.

You and all the others doing so much are my heroes, second only to the Lone Ranger.

Note also that there is a section on the main wiki for “Business Continuity” information:
http://www.fluwikie.com/pmwiki.php?n=Consequences.WorkplaceContinuity

It includes a generic business plan

Dennis in Colorado - Thanks for the tip. I intend to include all of this information eventually. Most of this will become part of the Stage One educational aspect. Right now I think my DH is on overload so I’m giving him a little at a time.
