Coments on my report from vacine trials in Europe made by anonymous (please pick a handle : ) I am in different timezone, so often I uses some days to reply..

“such news are giving people a false sense of security; don’t worry, we’ll take care of you. No wonder there is no prepper communities in europe. Actually, Norway with its huge amount of money should instead investing in preparations for keeping essential infrastructure up when the beast is unleashed.”

I think this is a typcal example of a negtivism often seen here in the forum. I realy understand the frustration we all feel in this cases, we have great knowlegde, but few of us are in a position to do some real action for the comunties. Some are, and do it well. And we others try to prep for ours, and then to comunicate and warn others like friends, co workers etc.

So.. What is bad news about a trial of a CELL BASED vacine? We all know that cell based will be the only technic to produce fast and big enough. Why does it give a falce sence of security to inform the public about it? I guess you mean so beacuse of the lack of innvolving the european public in preparations? During the last year the weight has shifted drasticaly between Europe and the US. A year ago the Europeans was far ahead with pandemic preparedness plans, and planning for keeping up the infrastructure. But now its clear that the US model of involing local comunites, companys etc is going realy well in the US, you have conferencec etc all the time.

There is no prep comunities in Europe..You may know this well, maybe you are european, maybe even Norwegian. But I dont think the lack of this comunities has anything to do with vacine reasearch news. It has other, more cultural explanations. What I want to know is, do you mean this gives “false security” since you dont belive in vacsines, or is it the lack of prep innvoling the citizens?

Im askin because sometimes I get the feeling that we spend time on this forum critisising the lack of action, but then when action is taken we continune critisising in a way that gives an impression that we dont want to be wrong, we want to be the badnews guys :)

Hei, Urdar, notsogoodathockeyneighbour ;) Actually the cultural explanations, or rather our welfare models, tend to make people over confident that society and authorities know what’s best for us all. The focus on vaccine in media is therefor just another signal to people that they are being taken care of. The experiences in Sweden concerning the tsunami event, where more than five hundred swedish citizens lost their lifes, show that people expected the government to be there for them. The public outrage shows how much we trusted upon authorities to be there when a disaster happens. They were let down. That is our “Katrina” experience. I don’t think we have learned anything from this. People still feel confidence that they will not be on their own if a disaster again occur.

There is actually more reporting and information concerning vaccine progress than about the threat itself. Meaning, don’t you worry your little heads. And people don’t worry.

Oh, I forgot.. will there really be vaccine for us Urdar? Without a technological breakthrough with capacity to both produce and deliver?

well. my best hope is 6 months.. before the distrubution starts.. I am low on the list, my girlfriend probably higher, but it will take time. And the experience with, as you said the tsunami incidence did not leave a confident impression. I agre that the belife of a vacine keeps keople from worying, but it is a bade excuse. Anyone reading the news, also this news about the trials understand, or should understand that we are in deep shit. Article mentioned a vacine first in 1–2 years time..

Problem is that people dont care. They do think that the cavalary will help them. And the government wants it so.. And this politic is because those responsible dont understand what this issue is, they are someway stuck in a “situation normal way of thinking” They should go and talk with a nurce, they will say no way this gonna work well…

Sametime its a realy good thing that people have this feeling of safty. We dont have to deal with many of the problems the US may have to. But still we have to get the message out that this will be a extraordinary event, that no social system can handle on its own, regardless of its quality. We need a mix of the US model and the wellfare state so we can deal with it on all levels..

I believe we could be in a better position than other countries. Considerable part of population is in possession of a refuge (hytte, stuga), with fresh water and heating problem solved. With a different approach than we see today people could be informed and prepared for the worst, and they could store at their refuges. We should be better off than we seem to be, if people just could be treated as grownups who can take responsibility. With current approach we are losing an opportunity.

I don’t believe the authorities even have adequate plans to holding up essential infrastructure. There are paper works, but they all prepare according to WHO’s scenarios. It is at least convenient for those in positions.

Vaccine is for the future, pandemic may be imminent. We should be prepared, but we are not.
