Forum: Join in with Group Buying for Canned Butter Cheese and MR Es

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 20:48

Hi All;

We have been toying with the idea of using our combined purchasing power to negotiate wholesale/discount/group pricing on preps we are already purchasing, and I’ve decided to take the lead and start one for canned butter from New Zealand, canned cheese from Australia by Kraft, and MRE’s. The idea is that individually we probably don’t merit a discount for a purchase of a case or two of something here and a case of something there. However, collectively, we are a large buying group that warrants special pricing and consideration IMHO.

So, I have taken the liberty of negotiating a potential group purchase for fellow fluwikians with the importer of the above products so we can all take advantage of our collective buying power. Now, just to put everyone’s mind at ease, I am in no way connected with this company or will not be in the middle in any way handling any money or anything like that.

After seeing how many people had already purchased or were interested in purchasing this canned butter and canned cheese specifically, and reading on another post about this company and complicated past group buys on some other forums (see thread “Canned Butter and Cheese Distributor” at http://tinyurl.com/hjmab for more background), I contacted the distributor directly and asked if it was feasible. They tell me that it is something that they would welcome, and that they can make it very easy for us just by issuing a coupon for us to use while shopping on their site. That lets each person purchase whatever quantity they want, pay for it however they want, and have it shipped right away without waiting for someone else to pay if it were going to be shipped all together.

So, if you (like me) are in the market for some more of this stuff (which by the way is my primary motivation for putting this together - as I’m sure someone will ask. I just want to save as much money as possible like the rest of us, so the more I can save us as a group, the more I will save personally on my purchases) or if you have thought about purchasing some after reading some of the different threads on it, then I need your help. The only hurdle I have left is that I promised them this afternoon that I would get them some idea of what kind of volume we would be talking about over the next few days so they can price it as far below retail for us as possible. And although I haven’t been told they won’t take my word for it, my goal is to show them this thread in a few days after we have gotten some collective feedback from the group as to what a bulk purchase may consist of.

To give you some information to help with the decision making process, the company is www.mrewholesalers.com, they sell retail through www.mredepot.com (you’ll see numerous posts with praise from fellow wikians on their good prices, speedy delivery and customer service) and the canned butter is commercial canned in New Zealand in 12 ounce cans and is sold in quantities of 6 cans, 12 cans and full cases of 24 cans. I suspect we will be looking at a price between $70 and $80 per full case after talking with them a bit (retails for $92), and shipping is based on your distance from them, but ranges from $10 to $20. The cheese is made by Kraft in Australia, and is sold in quantities of 6 cans, 12 cans and full cases of 36 cans. Each can is 8 ounces, and we could be looking at $20+ off of the retail of $90 on that as well. Shipping is about the same as the butter, but they tell me multiple cases ship together and there is a big savings for that. MREs come 12 to a case and retail for $65, so I’m looking for a healthy discount there too.

For more info on the company or the butter/cheese/MRE’s check out the following thread as well;

Real Canned Butter for Cheap; http://tinyurl.com/ygyaqa
Canned Butter and Cheese Distributor; http://tinyurl.com/hjmab

Now, I need everyone’s help if you are interested - please post your interest and the number of cases of each that you may potentially be in the market for, as I will keep a tally and take this back to them to get us the best deal possible. We’re not committing to anything by expressing our interest, but we will be sending them a strong message that if they want our business they will have to earn it. If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Thanks in advance for the support!

2 cases butter 2 cases cheese

Thanks for all your effort!

Edna Mode – at 20:54

Thanks for doing this FPISC! Even though I’ve canned a ton of butter myself, I’m too nervous to use it after reading one too many cautionary tales. I will order a total of two cases, either one each of cheese and butter or two butters.

Has anyone here eaten either the cheese or butter? If so, how was it?

Wolf – at 21:01

I’m expecting my combined order of butter, cheese and meat any day. If palatable, I’m in! (have waited 3 weeks - better get here soon!)

Grace RN – at 21:03

I’d like a case of butter and am interested in the cheeses- the web site said they have different types of cheese powders, even cream cheese!? When can I find more info on the cheeses?

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 21:09

Thanks all - we’re off to a great start, I really appreciate it!

Edna Mode; I actually have already purchased some of the butter. My suggestion would be to NOT try it -or- at least make a pact with the family that you will only use one or two cans and leave the rest alone, as it won’t last long in your preps if you open one (at least it doesn’t last long with my family;-).

The stuff is actually amazing - no additives/preservatives or colors - just pasturized cream and salt. I’d say it is more like rich European butter than we we get here in the States. A little less salt than grocery store butter, creamier and much more yellow than I am used to. You’d expect to have to suffer through a can if TSHTF, but I guess they know how to make good butter in New Zealand, as you will be eating better than you normally do if you have to dip into your preps!

Malachi – at 21:12

1 cheese 1 butter for me…..

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 21:15

Grace RN; That’s a good question. I focused on the butter to be honest with you, sorry. Let me see if I can get more info on the cheese for everyone, as I must have glossed over the cheese powders and cream cheese. I’ll get an e-mail out to them right now and get back to everyone as soon as I hear back.

Headliner1215 – at 21:38

I would definately be in for at least 5 cases of MREs - more if the price was right. Probably a case of butter and a case of the cheese too.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 21:45

I’m probably in for at least a case of each including MREs. Thanks Girl, for doing all this work!

KimTat 21:50

I need more cheese please, 1 case most likely.

ORmomat 21:52

Hi I would be in for 2 cases of butter 2 cases cheese. Thanks!!

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 21:56

This thread might just bring some lurkers out of the shadows!

Texas Rose – at 22:15

1 case each of butter and cheese, please.

tjclaw1 – at 22:18

One case of butter and one case of cheese, please.

mojo – at 22:19

I posted in another thread but I would be interested in a couple of cases of mres. Thanks!

PBQ – at 22:32

12 cans of cheese and 6 cans of butter. Thanks.

Kim – at 22:37

1 case each butter and cheese, plus powdered sour cream if they have it.

Snap – at 22:51

1 or 2 cases of Butter, maybe cheese also.

Rille – at 22:52

1 butter, 1 cheese. Thanks for your efforts!

Patch – at 23:10

I’d probably take a case of butter, maybe some MRE’s, depending on the price.

orange-brown – at 23:18

Grace RN – at 21:03 I don’t think MRE offers canned cream cheese, but if, I am in for 1 case. I also would like 1 case of the Kraft canned cheese.

I’ve tasted the butter, and it’s GOOD. I’ve already ordered two cases with the 10% discount that was around for a while (maybe still is? The info was on one of the butter threads), so no butter for me at this point.

THANK YOU for putting this order together!

Medical Maven – at 23:19

6 cases of MREs, if the discounts that you discussed for the other items hold proportionally for this item, too. Thank you for your initiative. : )

Many Cats – at 23:27

2+ cases of butter. I did not see when I looked at the MRE’s (I admit to only looking at the one page) what they consisted of other than 6 varieties. Anyone have any info. on what these varieties consist of? Calorie content? Anyone know if they taste ok? Thanks FPISC!

Influentia2 – at 23:40

I would order 12 cans of the butter. Thanks for doing all this.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 23:45

Wow – outstanding response so far, and it has only been a couple of hours.

Thanks to everyone for the participation thus far – please keep it coming. And, thank you for the kind words, this is well worth the effort IMO, as we (which means me too!!) will for SURE save some good money with this kind of response, and that is well worth a few minutes of my spare time.

Here’s the tally for those who are interested;

CANNED BUTTER; 19 Cases and 18 Cans CANNED CHEESE; 15 Cases and 12 Cans MRE’S; 16 Cases

By my count, that represents a roughly $4200 sale at retail prices… and that’s only in the first 3 hours…

How’s that for the power of a FLUWIKIE group purchase!! I’ll be a lot more confident now when it comes time to negotiate. This will for SURE make them sit up and take notice of us, and we have only been at it for such a short time yet!

Please get the word out there, and I’ll keep everyone informed with frequent updates/progress reports for my part.

I’ll take a case of the butter, thanks.

ssal – at 04:35

What kind of expiration dates will we be looking at on the butter and cheese?

Watching in Texas – at 07:22

I’m interested, but I too would like more info on exp dates please.

prepmaniac – at 07:39

I am interested in butter and cheese. How long is shelf life? What is MRES?

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 08:48

prepmaniac, are you asking about expiration dates on MRE’s or just what they are?

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 08:50

MRE’s = Meals Ready to Eat — the pre-cooked meals that the military uses for their purposes, for civilian emergencies, used for camping, etc. Requires no cooking whatsoever. There are separate little heaters activated with water you can use with them if you want to heat them up, but they’re made to just eat out of the package just like they are.

Neatles – at 09:13

I’m in for some MRE’s. We were out of power for a week this summer because of a storm. The Red Cross gave us a lasagna MRE. It heated up good, was easy, and tasted good.

prepmaniac – at 09:15

Sorry. I meant the shelf life or expiration date on the butter and cheese so that I know how much to order at one time. If it will expire in 2009, I can order more at one time than if it expires in six months.

Carrey in VA – at 09:21

If the price is good enough I’ll take 2 cases of cheese, and a case of MRE’s

Edna Mode – at 09:30

FPISC, Someone above mentioned that they have been waiting three weeks for their order. As I understand this process, we will all order individually and enter a discount code that the company sets up for this bulk purchase, and we’ll pay directly to the company using our preferred method. Right? Can you find out from your contact if they actually have the product in stock (they may need to wait for the imports), when the items will ship once payment is received, and what carrier they use? Thanks!

need more food – at 09:38

Put me in for one case of butter and one case of cheese.

Thanks!!!! This is great!

Felicia – at 09:41

2 cases of butter 2 cases of cheese 2 cases of MREs

CabinLassat 09:49

1 case cheese, 1 case butter, maybe more

Orlandopreppie – at 09:53

I ordered a case of each from another site doing a group buy. It came to $196 dollars including shipping.

Setting up group buys is not easy work and evidently a lot of people voice interest but don’t follow through when the price sounds higher. I just wanted you guys to know how much it cost so you could really plan. Oh, and the shipper gave us actual shipping charge and not the standard fe of $25 per case. That helped a little. I have not opened a can of either as I’ve heard great things and want to hold onto it until I really need it. I can tell you that the cans are substantial! The cheese is in a can as big around as tuna, but about half again taller. The butter is in an even bigger can. I definately feel like I got my money’s worth. Afterall, there’s no point in being uncivilized about this! (that’s my new mantra)

Snowhound1 – at 10:00

Fully Prepped…Put me in for 24 cans of cheese, 12 of butter = 1 mixed case

And possibly some other stuff from their site…

Lisa in Southern Maine – at 10:11

1 case butter, 1 case cheese now and will make same order if group break continues in a couple of months. Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this.

StinkinRoseat 10:34

1 case butter, I case cheese and thanks very much for making this happen.

Medical Maven – at 10:45

I second Edna Mode’s questions at 9:30. We need those details.

1 case butter, 1 case cheese, please.

EastTNat 11:33

Thanks for the effort.

I would purchase 2 cases of butter and 2 cases of cheese.

Fatboy – at 11:37

I just finished a grilled ham and cheese made with the Kraft “canned” cheese that we are taking about here. I got in on the group buy on another site through another vendor. The stuff is GOOD, it has an different constancy than “normal fresh” cheese that you would get at the store but when it is melted I doubt that many could tell the difference. It now has a shelf life on the can, never had it till the FDA started making Kraft put it on recently. The cans that I have are dated Sept. 24,07. The word on the street is that it will last indefinately. Buy with confidence regarding the taste, and from previos reviews the seller that you are dealing with provides fast service. We purchased through The Internet Grocier in Texas, They have a lot of good information on thier website and they were great to deal with also. I hope this can be of help to those that are on the fence. PS i am one of those lurkers that were prevously mentioned! Thanks for all you all do sharing information.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 13:14

Edna Mode – at 09:30 & Medical Maven – at 10:45; Good questions. I’m not sure who the company is that made Wolf – at 21:01 wait 3 weeks. Maybe he can let us know, as I would be curious to hear as well. I’d be surprised if it was mredepot. I bought from them after reading no less than a dozen posts here (see threads I listed above) that were all saying they were shipped the same or next day.

I’ve seen other group buys where someone collects the money, coordinates the orders, and facilitates the shipping. I didn’t think that was wise, so I proposed to them they they admister it, and they say it is not necessary - they will set up some kind of password that we will use on their website, and we all just place our orders individually at the group price, and pay however/whenever we want (I know they take credit cards, but I think they take PayPal and checks/money orders as well). They will ship orders individually (by UPS) so we all won’t have to wait for everyone to place their order - and they allow local pick-up for anyone close to them. I believe they always have everything in stock, but I will try and confirm that before we push them for prices.

I can tell you thins - I’ve personally made three purchases from them, and all three were at my door the next day, although I live in Southern California 90 miles from them, so UPS is only a one day ship. If anyone else has any feedback on delivery times from mredepot (or any other experiences, positive or negative) - please let us all know.

Thanks to I’m-workin’-on-it – at 08:50 for the explanation on the MRE’s. For more detailed info on them, see their site at http://tinyurl.com/y6m6n6. They have pictures, menus and even nutritional available for download. Shelf life is 10 years minimum if, like any other food item, you store them in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

Kraft does put a “Best Buy” date on each can - I guess it’s required by law now. Others who have purchased the cheese in the past have said that is a new thing, as they never used to print a date on the can. But, per a number of posts on other threads and from their website, there is no actual expiration date. They say the Cheese and Butter has an indefinate shelf life, but I think you would be safe to plan for 10 to 15 years if you keep them cool and out of the sun as well. Canning anything, when done right, creates a no-oxygen and bacteria free environment for the contents, so there will be no spoilage unless the can is opened. I would imagine they will not actually spoil for 20+ years, but you will begin to lose nutritional value on any canned food the longer that it sits - so keep that in mind.

Let me know if there are any more questions or anything that I missed. Thanks to all for the support!!

Bird Guano – at 13:19

I’m in for 2 cases of butter and 2 cases of cheese.

I need to set up a family rotation plan ;-)

That’s actually a really good price on the MRE’s, because the GSA purchase schedule for full case MRE’s is $69.

Too bad, because I just bought 20 cases for the fire department at the beginning of summer.

Medical Maven – at 13:32

FPiSC-Thanks for the quick update. Hope you can get a good discount on those MREs, too. I might even get more. Kids will be more finicky eaters than I, old codger that I am. And besides a smile on some kid’s face, even for a moment, would be a dessert than I would not want to miss.

Dennis in Colorado – at 13:36

1 case butter; 1 case cheese.
When do you expect to present an estimate of quantity to the distributor and have them commit to a price?

i case of cheese & 1 case of butter.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 14:07

Medical Maven – at 13:32; I’m definately going to work on the MRE’s, as I need some more myself. The only reason I don’t have more of them is that they have been so expensive after Katrina, and since we had (luckily) a mild hurricane season this year, I’m going to push for a deal for us for sure.

Be sure everyone provides a count for the MRE’s too, as we’ve already got a fair amount, but the more interest, the harder I can push them on the price…

Dennis in Colorado – at 13:36; Sinced the response has been so strong, I’m thinking that I am going to contact them today and see if I can book an appointment with them for Monday morning. They are only a 2 hour drive it looks like from me, and I can probably negotiate better in person (and I’d like to make sure they have enough inventory as well). So, I’m thinking that if I can get in front of them Monday morning, we should try and push for this to start Monday night. I’ll see if I can make that happen. Be sure to check back Monday afternoon, as I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

In order to maximixe my time, I hope everyone will give me their list of questions to add to my list (powdered cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, sufficient inventory, ship times, payment methods, MRE pricing, discount on other items from their site, how long the group buy discount will be good for and any other products they may have not listed on their site - let me know if I missed any).

Thanks for the support - and please keep getting the word out there.

A quick update for everyone - just got off the phone with mrewholesalers. I am booked for 10:00 Monday morning at one of their warehouses to meet with the Vice President of Sales, so we are definately on for Monday afternoon to kick this off. I haven’t shown them this thread just yet, as we still need to make sure we have everyone’s participation before I give them a final count. I’ll have them pull it up on their computer when I am in front of them, so we have a day and a half.

I did confirm that they will handle everything, so we’ll all be able to just purchase what we want direct from the website. They also said that everything on the retail site is in stock, and they guarentee 1-business day shipping, or it wouldn’t be on the site.

I also promised them a list of additional questions by e-mail this afternoon so they can start working on them. I’ll keep you posted.

AchillesMMat 18:35

I’ll take 5 cases of MRE’s for sure!! I’m set on cheese and butter for now - just got some from the same company. See if you can get as much time as possible on the password, as I may be ready for more in another couple of weeks. Thanks for working on this! If this works out, we should try this with more companies/products.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 19:40

Here’s the latest total - almost 24 hours after we started this, so not bad! By my count we have;

52 1/4 cases of Butter, 51 cases of Cheese, 36 cases of MRE’s Plus, a number of requests for powdered sour cream, powdered cheese and cream cheese.

That totals $11,737 - so a very impressive order in my opinion! We have a day and a half before I go in there Monday morning, so lets see how it continues to go. Keep getting the word out - family members, friends, other forums, etc.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 20:32

Hey guys! I wonder what our total to date is??

I wonder if it would be OK to stop by our fire departments and offer to place an order for them for MRE’s or cheese and butter? I don’t know if MREDepot would want us giving out a discount code to everyone we know, but maybe they wouldn’t mind if we asked first, or we could just arrange with our fire departments to give you a check to place the order or something. Well, heck, if we post the discount code here, anyone who happens to drop by could order with that discount code, so I guess a fire department could order for themselves! :-) Never mind.

OH! But I AM curious about how many cases have been requested so far……anyone know?

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 20:36

Well, duh….you and I must have posted almost at the same time…..great to know we’ve goten this far!

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 20:38

Well, that should be ‘gotten’ and my DH reminded me that I’d stepped away from the computer & apparently not refreshed so I missed your message about the totals before I posted. sorry.

Cinda – at 20:56

I’d be in for a case of butter and a case of cheese- maybe 2 of the butter. Looking forward to seeing the final tally and what they give us for a price. Somewhere out on the Wiki is a link for a company that sells canned meats- Can’t think of the name but I bet it’s in my favorites somewhere, if this works maybe we can get a similar plan with them?

JWB – at 21:00

Fully Prepped In SoCal – at 19:40

Again. THANK YOU!

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 21:03

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 20:36; See, great minds think alike!! ;-) Plus, it should be noted here that this was I’m-workin’on’it’s idea originally, so thanks for your vision! See what you’ve created? I’ve already been trying to figure out what products we start on next after we get this one done…

And, that is actually a really good point on local fire departments, law enforcement and especially utility providers. I can’t imagine a company would mind if more people took advantage of the special price or if we spread the word once the buy starts - after all, they would probably want to sell more product to justify the reduced price I would guess. In fact, it may be a powerful tool that we can use to 1) negotiate a better price because of the potential for larger volume, and 2) a great reason why they should keep the discount code activate for a longer period, which will benefit a lot of folks on here I would imagine. So if anyone else sees any value in that idea - please sing out in a posting so we can share the word with mredepot.com.

Great thinking! I’ll spread the word in my neck of the woods Monday - might as well make sure our first responders are prepared too - and since they use our tax money to make these kinds of purchases, saving them money will let them get more bang for their buck.

PS I’ll do another count late tonight for everyone, probably 2 or 3 more tomorrow and one last one Monday morning before I jump on our great freeways to go work out the pricing.

NauticalManat 21:06

Three cases MREs. What, no C-Rations! :O)

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 21:19

Cinda – at 20:56; Good point about the canned meat. That may be the best bet for our next adventure, thank you! I know it is a mandatory item in my preps… It would be nice to work out a great deal on some.

Come to think of it, I noticed that mredepot’s website mentioned canned meats, but I have never seen any on there. Let me ask them in an e-mail right now - if they don’t have any, maybe they can point us in the right direction.

JWB and all - my pleasure! I’m actually enjoying this!!!

MO Molly – at 22:01

1 case butter, 1 case MRE Thank you

Neatles – at 22:07

3 cases MRI, 6 cans of cheese. I’m also interested in what they have as far as meat. Thanks so much for setting this up for us all. Fluwiki folks will get the news out and get people to prep. There are alot of heroes on this site. Thanks to all of you to work so hard for the sake of us all. I’m prepping for my husband and I along with others families I love that can’t prep for themselves, I need them to be safe.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 22:31

Jackpot on the canned meat!! Thanks again for the suggestion Cinda, I’m glad we asked.

I just got an e-mail back from mredepot, and they have about 3,000 cases of canned beef, chicken, turkey and pork in stock. I think also some seasoned pork and beef and gravy, but I’m trying to confirm that. Apparently it is only sold through their wholesale department (they said army/navy stores, other websites, etc.) – but because we are interested, they will post it on the website for us through the duration of the group buy. They’re going to get me some more details on it, but apparently they are 28 ounce #2 ½ cans, US meats, all canned locally and less than 3 weeks old.

They normally sell in cases of 24, but they are going to work up some smaller quantities and combinations to make it more compatible for retail sales. I guess they are planning to private label this product in the near future, but they are going to take me over to their other warehouse Monday and show me all their inventory so I have a better idea in order to explain it to the group.

He’s going to work on pricing for me by tomorrow or Monday at the latest, but said they currently have two lines – one line that is very low in fat, and a more affordable line with 20% to 25% fat content. I’ll let you know if I hear any more on it before the meeting.

Is this something everyone is interested in?

Yes, I have some meat but if we get a good price could go for more, plus I think I might get mre’s too plus the cheese already mentioned.

Thanks!

Bird Guano – at 22:39

Fully Prepped In SoCal – at 21:03 And, that is actually a really good point on local fire departments, law enforcement and especially utility providers. I can’t imagine a company would mind if more people took advantage of the special price or if we spread the word once the buy starts

Just an FYI, most Fire Departments work on Net 30 payment, and order off the state GSA pricing schedule.

Where do they source their canned meats from ?

Werling in Ohio Hereford Castleberrys or do they contract out for a private run from a canner in Southern California ?

Also find out if they have a no-salt-added canned meat product. Most of the canned meats out here have like a year’s supply of salt in one can. Blech.

Thanks for doing the leg work on all of this.

I’m in Canada. I’m not sure if they ship here and also how expensive the shipping charge would be.

So, put me down as a possible 2 cases of cheese, depending on the answers to my shipping questions.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 01:34

Hi Irene; That’s another good question, international shipping. I’ll add it to my list and let you know what I find out.

Time for another tally;

Butter; 64 Chese; 59 1/2 MRE’s; 54

  - plus a lot of maybe’s, so it may wind up be north of the above numbers -

That’s just about $15,000! Ironically, when I first contacted them, I threw out a number of $25,000 - so we may actually hit that with 36 hours still to go.

Dennis in Colorado – at 08:27

Fully Prepped In SoCal – at 01:34
I am sure you have considered this … but the numbers of those who actually buy will depend greatly on the level of discount offered. If the list price is $90 and we have an opportunity to buy for $89 (just as an example), the interest will rapidly wane. If, on the other hand, the list price is $90 and our discounted price is $49, then interest in the group buy will increase, even beyond those who have posted so far.
In other words, even though many are expressing their intent to buy (without yet knowing the price), the price will be important and must be as low as possible.
Thanks again for taking the lead in this.

Medical Maven – at 09:29

I second Dennis in Colorado. I could buy more, if the price is right. I might be giving our some strange gift baskets for Christmas.

PrepSchlepat 09:31

I agree with Dennis. The % of discount will have a lot to do with the volume of my purchase.

Having said that, put me down for 2 cases of butter, 2 cases of cheese and possibly 2 or 3 cases of MREs.

So very glad I stopped by to see you all this morning!

TIA for all your work on this FPISC. :>} Can you give me some idea of how this actually works. I mean, who do we pay and how does the company get the individual orders and addresses for delivery? Sorry to be such a dummy but this is a first for me. Thanks again.

Bird Guano – at 11:38

Naomi I believe the flow will be something like this:

Decide on the items to be offered by MREWholesalers

Negotiate the discount rate

Establish a checkout code to get the discount

YOU go online and order what you want using their shopping cart.

Enter the magic code for the discount and calculate shipping

YOU pay yourself with credit card or PayPal directly to MREWholesalers

The company uses UPS to deliver the product(s) to your address of choice.

Not so much a “group buy” as a “buying club”

Fully Prepped In SoCal Is this (canned meat) something everyone is interested in?

anonymous – at 07:52 Am I just weird or would this stuff make a great Chtristmas gift?

WELCOME ALL LURKERS!!! :-) Yes, that’s a shout — glad to know you folks are around — every time we see one new person from someone’s area of the nation it’s reassuring to us already posting to know that one more person is working toward making their area safer for their families and that will help our own families who live in that area as well.

Please give Fully Prepped ALL THE CREDIT for this — she had us all fired up on another thread, I just suggested a new title for a bigger draw — this has been her doing from the get-go!! And I thank you as well.

I would be interested in canned meats as well. I have the Werling brand (did I spell that correctly?) and it’s a VERY NICE SIZED CAN FOR A SMALL FAMILY. You don’t want too much meat opened that can’t be consumed right away if there are power problems & these are good quantities.

The low or no salt would be great to have a a choice. Especially as a Christmas gift or for OUR anniversary! :-)

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 15:19

Hi All;

Just a few updates for us all;

1) They don’t stock the powdered cheese, sour cream and cream cheese, but they can get it. They say the concern is that it only has a shelf life of a year unless canned or repacked. And that it doesn’t taste all that great on it’s own, but is primarily used in cooking/baking. They say that a bag of roughly 8 ounces (varies by product) can be around $10 to $12, so it is a bit pricey. They threw the ball in my court and asked me to find out if we are interested. If so, let me know and they’ll bring it in for us if we want them to.

2) Orders from Canada are accepted, and although they say shipping will cost more because it is international, it is calculated at stabdard UPS rates, so no handling fee. So that’s good news for our friends to the north!

3) The canned meats are canned by Werlind and Sons, who have been around for 100 years I guess. They also have the Yoder brand of canned meats, but in limited meats - only beef and chicken. They are not salt-free, but they (werlings) are lower in sodium than most other brands, especially Yoders and Brinkmans he said (yoders is pretty high in sodium and fat, but I guess almost half the cost - they call it their “economy” line… Not sure on that, but we’ll have to see what the prices look like before I decide). Thanks to those who speculated on the canners (and were right), as I think they now see me as more credible because we have been asking the right questions AND have been knowledgeable on our assumptions that I have been making with them - so thanks to all for the education!

4) On the price - I have been working on a pretty comprehensive presentation to make to these guys. My message is going to be pretty much the same as most of your thoughts; A) a couple of dollars off, and we will instead go to someone else, as it is not worth our time or effort. B) Volume will be dictated by the value of the offer (i.e. we will purchase more if the price is significabtly better). And C) They do need to consider most of us have a budget, and that Christmas is coming soon, so a longer term will increase sales and encourage more repeat buys. I’m going to push for the rest of the year to let us purchase, and if that doesn’t work, at least 30 - 45 days. I am also going to do some research today to try and come up with a good competitive analysis of their industry to show them that we have done our homework and will go to someone else if they don’t take us seriously.

5) Our totals so far are pretty impressive - here’s the latest;

BUTTER; 80 Cases

CHEESE; 72 1/2 Cases

MRE’S; 66 Cases

That’s just north of $18K, and doesn’t include the maybes - not bad IMO!!

6) Thanks to EVRYONE for the very kind words and thanks, I really appreciate it! It is well worth my time and effort, as I intend to do a fair amount of buisness with them for myself - but probably quite a bit more for my friends and family, so the savings (hopefully) will be the reward! And, I plan to do this with other companies after we finish this one, so the rewards could be large for just my bank account.

Keep getting the word out there, keep any questions coming, and keep watch on this thread for any updates as I will post them as I have them. Remeber that I will be meeting with them tomorrow morning, and have a bit of a drive to get to them, so we have less than a day left. I’m planning on having this start Monday afternoon/night, which is what I am going to push for - and as soon as I get back Monday, I’ll get all the info posted so we’ll know if I was successful or not by this time or a little later tomorrow. Thanks for the support! I wish we had done this a long time ago…

Regarding orders to Canada, would they be able to confirm that there is no problem getting the canned cheese through customs? I ask because food items are always a sticky item and I’m not sure that it wouldn’t require some sort of special customs clearance/paper that isn’t required for non-food items.

Thanks all!

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 22:02

longhorn – at 21:39 good question and brings up the question as to whether the MRE cases can come mixed or if a case is all the same entree?

Isn’t it Honeyville that ships FROM Canada? They don’t get too hung up in Customs coming into the USA so I doubt these cases would gave any trouble leaving the country.

I’ve bought from these folks before on ebay and their service was great!

youngmom – at 22:18

How about a taste test? And let us know how they are? I thought it’s a silly question, but oh well.. :P

NauticalManat 22:23

Be interesting to see what level their prices will be set. Have a few cases of MRE’s bought almost a year ago from Meyers, they had the cheapest prices. Just now checked their website and prices have not changed, 1–5 cases are $62 each, plus shipping, 6–9 are $59, 10 or more are $57, with bigger amounts, such as pallets? available cheaper, but think you have to email them for those type of prices. Check these prices for yourselves.

At least 1 case butter, 1 case cheese, 1 case MREs.

(Hi S. Arlington — see our regional preppers meet-in-person get together this sat. in Great Falls at the library from 12 - 4PM. Check out the regional thread.)

Medical Maven – at 22:31

NauticalMan at 22:53-Hopefully we can get them down to near $50 for the MREs.

Edna Mode – at 22:45

FPISC, In re-reading the thread, another couple of questions come to mind…

First, please double-check with them that they really will be able to ship as quickly as they say. An order of this size, even if it comes in over the course of several days to a week, could overwhelm their normal shipping capabilities. I don’t mind if it takes them a little longer to ship. I just want to make sure they and we have a realistic expectation of what they can/will provide.

Secondly, please verify and re-verify with them that ALL their meats are SOURCED and PROCESSED domestically. (caps for emphasis, not yelling) I don’t know the status of the bill at this point, but there was trade agreement driven legislation up for consideration this spring that, if passed (and I think it did, but my memory may be flawed) would have US poultry processors exporting domestic poultry products to China for process and ultimate reimportation into the US.

NauticalManat 22:45

Medical Maven - If we can get them down somewhere that low, will buy even more! Night all…

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 23:38

Medical Maven & NauticalMan; Great question/point on MRE pricing. I’ll emphasis that we need to be below anyone else out there in order for it to make sense, and I will see if we can get them to $50. I’ve just put that on my list, thanks! If you have any more specifics on MRE’s (I don’t know as much about them as I should, so anything to help me from looking like a fool tomorrow would be much appreciated, thanks).

Edna Mode; Couple more GREAT questions, thanks! I will address them both, and given the nature of this wikie (and all of our interest in being here) I’ll put special emphasis on your second point. I don’t think I would be up for any of the canned meat if it is not raised and canned in the US. Should have thought of that one myself, so thanks!

I’ll check back one more time in a couple of hours tonight before I put the finishing touches on my notes, and I’ll get us another tally before I log off tonight. Then I’ll have time in the morning before I head out to check in and do a last count - so keep the questions AND the count coming, please!

NauticalManat 23:59

Fully Prepped in SC One more question you might ask is what the mix of meals would be. If memory serves, there are a number of different combos of meals available, but I think they only make one at a time, so you may order 5 or even 10 case and they would all be the same. There are 12 meals in a case, 2 each of six different meals. Try this site to see the latest assortment of menu items, but I think the civilian versions have less than the 24 listed in the military MREs. http://www.mreinfo.com/mre-menus.html

Have not actually eaten any of these, my last MRE (actually C - Rations in Vietnam) was about 1967! Can vouch for the retort pouch the meals come in, eat a lot of the Tasty Bite meals, which are very good but spicy. Only downside is that their shelf life is only 18 months according to their info, while the MRE’ can last 5 or 10 years or more if stored at cool enought temps.

16 October 2006

NauticalManat 00:09

Addendum: No one back then seemed to like the C-Ration Ham and Lima Beans, except me, so in the 7 or 8 months I lived with the Special Forces in a “B” camp, got a lot of them! We had a mess hall, food was decent, but the C - Rations were a welcome respite for a change. Also ate every day at least one Vietnamese meal with my then counterpart. Still love their food to this day. Any one out there spend some time in Song Be,Phuoc Long Province, in that time period, 1966–67? Sorry to drift off topic here. Thanks for you for all your efforts on this FPISC.

Bird Guano – at 00:13

Definitely watch the meats.

A lot of the beef is sourced/canned in Argentina or Brazil and the chicken from Asia.

If it’s Wierling’s, I’m pretty sure it’s all US sources, as I’ve purchased directly from them before by the case. VERY good stuff. Just a tad salty.

I also just got a couple of test cases of grass fed beef in gravy out of a family outfit in Indiana, and as soon as I find the invoice, I’ll post that as a competitive source.

If the MRE’s go somewhere in the area of $50, I’ll be in for 10 cases for the fire department.

NauticalManat 00:15

Found the manufacturers website with present menu. Looks like it is much like the militarys.

Fully Prepped in SC-thanks so much for taking it on. Am prepping just for self, can I get twelve cans of butter only (half case)? seems like from your first post that is possible, but everyone seems to be ordering cases. I was going to order six cans from this same company anyway before I saw your thread.

Butter would be a GREAT barter item in bad times, I figure!! each is three sticks of butter…thats at least a week for one or two people.

Butter stores well inverted upside down in a saucer of water, at room temperature, for a long time. I have been looking for those special containers that hold butter that way. As is, a case of this butter isn’t even that much more expensive than RETAIL sticks of butter according to my computations, even if there are no severe shortages, it won’t be a waste of money!

Bird Guano – at 00:13; Definetly an important question/cincern on the meats - I’ll confirm before we even decide to include them, as that ranks right up there in my book too. Let me know if you find the source in Indiana, as I will use it to our advantage (or mayve we try to put something together with them is the meats with mredepot don’t work out). Talked with various family members this weekend about this bulk buy and they are interested as well if the price is good. They remarked the same thing that has been previously posted that at least a 45–60 day shopping period with the discount coupon would be needed due to budget constraints.

Just wanted to add that- that by talking this up with friends and family, we could significantly up the total order.

Yes, that 45 day minimum on utilizing the agreed discount should be part of the deal.

Annoyed Max- Not mad yet – at 10:42

I’m in for a couple a cases of MRE’s depending on cost. For everyone asking about taste, I have had 10 year old MRE’s that were actually pretty good especially for how old they were. My buddy just got back from Iraq and I asked his opinion. He said they are of excellent quality and the heater things are awesome but that you will get sick of eating them after a while just like anything else. Also is there an option of just buying the main meal part of the MRE’s. I have personally don’t this in the past, its much cheaper and most of the rest of the MRE is “excess” you don’t really need such as plastic forks, drink mix, condiments, etc.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 11:12

Hi All;

It’s a few minutes past 8:00 here, and I’m running out the door for this meeting - but I wanted to get everyone a final count;

Butter: 101 Cases!!

Cheese: 91 Cases!!

MRE’s: 100 Cases!! (Funny how they wound up being almost the same count - I guess they are all equally important to us!)

That winds up being just shy of $24,000 ($23,982 by my calculations) - so looks like I wasn’t too far off base with my proposal to them for $25,000.

As soon as I get back, I will post the results of the meeting - should be around 2:00 to 3:00-ish (Pacific) this afternoon, so wish me luck and be sure to check back shortly. Thanks again to everyone for the support - I’ve rather enjoyed the challenge!

I’m going to try and give you just the highlights (as I have sooo much information and I am exhausted) from the meeting, including the pricing and terms I worked out as well as the answers to all the questions I took from the group – I’ll do it in a bullet format so this won’t wind up being a novel (as I have 9 pages of notes) and in the interest of time. If anyone wants more detail on any subject, please don’t hesitate to ask.

PRICE; They are going to offer us a 21% discount (note, they started at 15% with me at 30%, and that is where we met). I stressed the fact that the volume would be larger for a better discount, and I think they understand our potential at this point. We spent some time on this thread so they could get a better understanding of where we were coming from, so thank you all for the great points and participation! They say that the margin is slimmer on some items, and their goal was to do a website-wide offer for us to include every product on the site without having to exclude any items. The sale will be active early this evening (they promised by 5:00 PM Pacific/8:00 PM Eastern (less than an hour – wow it’s been a long day), and all we have to do is enter the code “fluwikie” at check out (no quotes or caps) and the discount will be applied on our entire shopping cart.

TERMS: I got them to agree to keep this active until the end of the year!! They saw the value of being able to allow friends, neighbors and family, as well as the community to take advantage, and understand we will need time to spread the word. They also are cognizant of the fact that the holiday season is right around the corner, and that some of us have budgets and can’t necessarily purchase everything in one shot/month. So, our group discount will not expire until 12/31/06 – that gives us 2 ½ months!!

COMPANY: I must say, I was impressed with their operation. I met them first at a small warehouse in San Clemente, CA where they do their retail fulfillment. But we wound up driving over to their distribution center in Lake Forest CA (about a 30 minute drive) where they run other businesses as well as supply two of their own retail stores. Sorry for the late posting, but that’s what took me a little more time, and of course I hit our lovely traffic on the way back.

Their main business is supplying other distributors with the product wholesale, and the dist. center is huge – 145,000 square feet in a modern, upscale industrial park. Funny, but no names on any of the buildings/doors. I guess in their business, you don’t advertise what you do.

They have MRE’s stacked on racks 40 feet in the air – I probably saw 200+ pallets I would guess… Dozens of pallets of everything from Cheese & Butter to gas generators, mace and first aid kits. Very professional group of guys AND organization. Most are ex-military, and they have about 40 employees.

SAMPLE OF THE DISCOUNT: I took a few products and ran the discount, just so we can get an idea of the final numbers (price on the web X .79); Case of Butter: $72.64 Case of Cheese: $71.85 Case of MRE’s: $51.31 10 Cases of MRE’s: $489.80 ($48.98/case, which should make a lot of people happy) Case (12 cans) of meat: $59.21 Case of Powdered Eggs from Honeyville: $55.26 3500 watt generator: $312.05 1250 watt generator: $110.56

Let’s see if I can get to some of the questions (in no particular order);

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING; Shipping to Canada is no problem, other countries are difficult because of export laws on food items I guess. Canada can be handled online just like the US. Apparently not all banks are the same, so they have had some problems with Canadian credit cards, but it is rare. They said worse case scenario contact them if you are having trouble, or you can mail a check. Customs/Duties are usually no problem, as NAFTA makes it easier nowadays. But all Canadian taxes and any duty you have to pay.

PAYMENT; They take all credit cards over the web, and they never see the credit card information. When you check-out online, the system just authorizes your card. They don’t charge it until it ships. It’s mostly automated they say. You can also pay with paypal, money order or personal check- apparently it gives you instructions online on how to do that. There is no sales tax on food items, so we luck out there (if you are in CA, otherwise it’s not an issue). All other items they pay the sales tax so we don’t have to.

SHIPPING; They claim to have averaged 97% same day/next day shipping (depends on when the order comes in – I didn’t think to ask them when that cut-off was, sorry). They are a little concerned with a rush of orders over the next few days, but will bring in some extra help Tuesday and Wednesday and be prepared to work a lot of overtime. They said worse case scenario, if they don’t ship in 24 hours, it will definitely ship in 48. But they didn’t seem worried about being able to get everything out quickly. They don’t charge a handling fee, so you only pay UPS rates. They have a shipping calculator in the shopping cart, so you can get the cost of the shipping without waiting until checking out.

SUPPORT: They e-mail you when it ships, and they send you the tracking numbers (I’ve seen that myself), so you will always be on top of it. You can always track your order online too I guess – I’ll have to try and figure that one out.

PRODUCTS: They are going to be adding more freeze dried foods for us over the next 24 hours. Otherwise, everything they have on the website is in stock except the canned meat, which is due in Friday or Monday at the latest. They put it up for us early at my request. They are going to ship it separate if we order other items so we don’t have to wait for it before our whole order ships. They’re going to pick up the shipping tab on that for anyone that buys the canned meat this week if it has to ship separate from the rest of our order.

POWDERED SOUR CREAM & CHEESE, CREAM CHEESE: They still aren’t crazy about the powdered cheese because of the only limted (1 year) shelf life. But they will bring it in if enough people want it. Let me know, and I will get word to them if we want to try it.

POLICE/FIRE: They would welcome municipal orders, and apparently do quite a bit of business to first responders/FEMA and the government now. Normally that is handled through the wholesale department, but they are going to add a PO option to the website in the next 24 hours for us since our discount will be better than their GSA rate, and they will accept PO’s from any government entity (with credit approval I guess) right on the site. They will honor the discount through the end of the year on that business as well. They were very grateful that we even thought to suggest it to our local contacts, and said to say thank you to everyone.

CANNED MEAT; The canned meat is made by Werling, and is definitely all US raised and canned meat – no imports (I guess it is almost impossible to do that any more anyway they said because of all the import/export restrictions). They do carry the Yoder’s line, but have to give first shot to their dealers first, as it has been tough to come by I guess. They said they would have the meats up on the website before 5:00, and I haven’t checked yet, but they will qualify for the discount as well. They don’t have a no-salt brand, but the Werlings is lower in sodium than most they say.

MRES; They don’t have any vegetarian MRE’s in stock right now, as I guess supply is still tight after last years hurricane season. They also can’t change the menus around – all they have are the six different menus on the website – so if you order 10 cases, all 10 cases will be the same. That may change in a couple of months they say, but they never know until a week before a truck shows up.

SAMPLES; They offered to put up sample orders of the MRE’s, cheese and butter so we could buy one to try if that will help. He promised it would be up tonight by the time the sale went on.

Phew, I think that is it. I was sitting in the car for almost 3 hours dying to get this out to everyone – killed me to not be able to. It was well worth my time, in case anyone is worried – as this will save me and my friends hundreds of dollars over the next few months. Let me know if I missed anything in my rush to get this posted, and if you need more detail on anything, I’ll be glad to flip through my notes as many times as we need to. Thanks again for the support on this and all the kind words, I really appreciate it!!

Snowhound1 – at 19:52

Thanks Fully Prepped…and we go to which website to place our orders?

Goju – at 19:53

Did you get to “cut the cheese”?

I couldnt help myself. LOL

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 20:04

Sorry Snowhound1 - I guess that would help!! www.MREdepot.com is the website. Coupon code is fluwikie. Let me know if you have any trouble!!

And didn’t get to cut any cheese OR butter Goju;-) I did get to “cut to the chase” with them a few times (at least that was my favorite line with them all day today). I could have spent hours there if I let them do the whole dog and pony show… I just wanted to get to the numbers part, and once I got to the right guy, we got down to business (and if he reads this, he’ll know what I mean;-)

orange-brown – at 20:09

Thank you for all your hard work!!! I guess they will be flooded with orders over the next couple of days :)

newore – at 20:12

seems to be working, as far as the discount prices. got a verification of order via email.

Bird Guano – at 20:15

Thanks on the quantity pricing for MRE’s.

I’ll be ordering now for next fire season, as the menus are different than my last GSA order.

Thanks again for all of your diligent work on this.

I’ll be a very busy man on theier website later tonight ;-)

Hopefully this will be a huge success, and it can be repeated for fluwikians next year as well.

Many Cats – at 20:18

WAY TO GO, FPISC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I’d do more exclamaiton points, but that’s supposed to mess up the wiki somehow). The whole wiki community does a dance of joy in your honor!!!!!! :) :) :)

Snowhound1 – at 20:32

Got my order in and discount applied..shipping kind of high I thought. I ordered one mixed case and a small generator…shipping was $56.62

Edna Mode – at 20:34

Great work FPISC. Thanks for all your efforts. You should be proud!

silversage – at 20:39

Snowhound1 you’re a lot closer than me cause shipping for 2 cases of butter and 2 cases of cheese was $78.96 and I still saved $72.00 over another site for the same stuff!!

Thanks Fully Prepped In SoCal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderer – at 21:27

Nice job! I’ll be placing my order!

Cinda – at 21:56

My order is in- it all worked fine- Thanks so much. Those guys will be very busy for a few days! Shipping for me is the worst because of where we live- in the NE- and it’s always high- but the discount made up for it!

Mom of 3+1/2 – at 21:59

Discount just worked for me - many thanks Fully Prepped!! I know I am grateful - probably just saved $150 this month, and the same next month!!!!!

I just bought one of those generators too, and I know they weight like 60 pounds, so that isn’t too bad when you think about it. Plus cheese and butter can’t be that light. Gotta love UPS and gas prices… Still a LOT cheaper than I have seen, and I have been shopping for a while. This is WONDEERFUL!!

Watching in Texas – at 22:14

Just placed my order and I got an email response confirming the order in seconds.

Fully Prepped in SoCal -

Thank you so very much for doing all of this:)

deborah – at 22:33

I can’t order until Wednesday, the wait is killing me!!! :) Make sure all of you post the delivery time when you get your order. The information would be good to know. And to Fully Prepped in SoCal, a very grateful thank you from all of us here.

LauraBat 22:35

Fully prepped - you rock! I’ll be placing my order tomorrow.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 22:36

Girl, there’s a crown in heaven for you for seeing this through!!! Amazing work!! I don’t know what you do for a living, but you need to put this project on your resune as one that was conceived and implemented in 48 or so hours, successfully rolled out with seamless precision, and will positively impact hundreds, maybe thousands of people. We need to give you your own “fluwikie” horn to toot because you’ve EARNED it!!!!!!! THANKS!

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 22:40

Hey, would it be a conflict or something to put a link on the main page with the discount code and do the same thing for other companies as we get them??

Medical Maven – at 23:18

Placed my order this evening. Thank you FPISC. That topped me off. The “icing on the cake” courtesy of a very proficient wheeler-dealer. : )

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 23:21

You are all VERY welcome - I just got my order in WITH the discount, so it was all well worth it. Thanks for the praise - I wish I could take more credit, but to be honest with you it wasn’t a very tough sell. They were very open to the idea, I just had to sell them on the opportunity for a larger discount.

I was a bit nervous that they would have everything working by the time they promised, so that is a good sign I will say. I’m going to send them an e-mail to see how it’s going over there - I bet we buried them!! At least they can say we followed through!!

Lets see how quick they ship now. Tomorrow will tell. I hope they were serious about bringing in some extra help!

I think putting some kind of link up would be a great idea - not sure if that is possible, but hopefully one of the mods can let us know.

Now I’m reay to tackle the next one…

Irene – at 23:23

Has anyone taste-tested any of the different Werling canned meats? I’m looking for recommendations.

Neatles – at 23:27

My order is in, discount worked good. Thank you so much.

My order just went in, email confirming, not too bad on shipping to Indiana, the discount made the difference on being able to order. Even doubled what I originally wanted - think Christmas presents. Thanks so much. On meat, I stopped in Van Wert OH yesterday on my way home from NJ and stumbled upon canned turkey - couldn’t find any here in Indiana. Also had canned pork. 14.5 oz by Keystone, canned in Lima, OH. Sodium 180mg. Found at .. Wallyworld!! The company has chicken, beef, turkey and pork. Tried the turkey tonite, and it was good. Never stop looking for what you want, you never know who will have it when.

Jackson – at 00:18

Just wanted to send my thanks as well, FPISC…I’ll be placing an order this weekend after scrolling through all their items!

Bird Guano – at 00:58

Has anyone taste-tested any of the different Werling canned meats? I’m looking for recommendations

I’m pretty picky and I was VERY happy with the canned beef, chicken and pork.

A bit salty for what I’m used to day-day, but over noodles, etc. it was fine.

Easy to make a pan gravy with the liquids.

Haven’t tried the turkey yet. Just haven’t gotten around to it.

I will definitely be placing a wet-pack canned meat order tomorrow morning.

Irene – at 01:14

Thank you, Bird Guano!

SoCalGalat 03:04

FPISC Thank You! I just placed my order of 12 cans of butter and 1 case of MREs It was $ 112.00

jplanner – at 03:27

Edna Mode, thanks for butter bell info. It will be the perfect way to store that open can of butter and not have it go bad without refrigeration. I tried to get on site via two links and also typing in address, no luck tonite, will try tomorrow. goodnite all.l

EastTNat 08:30

Thanks FPISC, just completed my order.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 09:14

FPISC, I poked around last night trying to find their email address so I could thank them for working with us & I couldn’t find it anywhere….do you have it and could you post it here or do they not want it given out?

zeta – at 09:28

I just ordered and they had this email address listed in case you had any questions scyros@MREWholesalers.com .

Thanks so much for this, FPISC. Any chance you want to negotiate a deal for us with Alpine Aire? ;) http://www.alpineaire.com/pouches.html

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 09:32

Perfect zeta — THANKS! I just didn’t see it anywhere, but I’d just come from a condo board meeting which is always nerve-racking so I was probably shell-shocked from that & couldn’t find it….still am. I get too worked up over these meetings! :-)

Edna Mode – at 09:35

jplanner – at 03:27

You’re welcome. I was in a cooking store yesterday, and they had a full shelf of butter bells, so if you can’t get the links to work, try a local store.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 09:39

Or maybe we could get a discount from nitro-pak at least on their P100 masks? I’m having to buy off ebay to get a better price. Nitro-pak gives you a $10 off every $100 order, but that’s it.

jplanner, also try Amazon - that’s where I bought my butter keeper & I’ve seen them on eBay sometimes.

Fully Prepped In SoCalat 09:48

Thanks Zeta for getting the e-mail address up before I had a chance! scyros@MREWholesalers.com is the correct e-mail address for our contact, sorry - should have posted it before. Steven Cyros is the VP, and he actualy told me to post his e-mail address in case anyone had any questions, so he won’t mind at all (although I suspect he is buried right now;-)

Glad this is working out so well, I’m tickled that we were able to pull this off!!

I’m ready for the next one now. So far we have two suggestions, Alpine Aire and Nitro-Pak - both good ones IMO!! Any other suggestions/consensus??

Goju – at 09:55

Just ordered Dry milk, butter and cheese! Fantastic. But i didnt see the discount on the confirmation page nor email. I emailed them… lets see…

Snowhound1 – at 09:59

http://tinyurl.com/ydcvcr

Butter crock from Lehman’s. I have this one and have used it for a couple of years. I discovered that if you add some salt to the water that it works even better, and always use a clean knife to get the butter out and put it on a separate surface, then use another knife to butter your toast. If the butter becomes “contaminated” with toast particles, etc. it will mold.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 09:59

Hey, while folks are reading this thread, I want to say that there are some people here who won’t read this thread because they don’t want MRE’s, cheese or butter. But now, since the company is offering discounts on ANYthing (and they have some great 3-day kits, etc) maybe we should keep this thread going, but add another thread with a title like [ Group Discount on All Products at MREDepot Not Just MREs ] or something like that, so it might catch the eye of others. What do you think?

Another site to approach might be iprepare.com or AAOOBfoods.com

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 10:01

Goju did you type in the discount word in the coupon section of the screen?

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 10:06

I forgot to add what I meant to say in the first place….since we’re all reading this thread, why don’t we each go to our state’s thread and direct them here, telling them that the discount is on everything — might get more interest that way too and newbies seeing their state thread might happen upon it there too.

StinkinRoseat 10:13

FPISC Thanks for all your hard work. I ordered a case of butter and cheese this morning. The discount code worked beautifully. It was a substantial savings.

Cheers.

barn owl – at 11:04

Fully Prepped In SoCal - thanks. I had ordered some butter & Cheese elswhere, but not as much as I wanted…to expensive…but you fixed that and now I’m all set :)

Fascinating exercise in group think!

Goju – at 11:04

Yes I did - and Steve just wrote back - the discount was applied - it just didnt show on the web confirm and email. This company is good!

Hope the butter/Cheese/Dry Milk are just as good.

tjclaw1 – at 11:47

Fully Prepped In SoCal – at 09:48

How about seeing if Honeyvillegrain.com will work with us on a discount?
Closed and Continued - Bronco Bill – at 12:21

Thread is long and getting longer. Closed and continued here

Opening post and ordering info copied to new thread. I think.

Cinda – at 12:23

FPISC I’m ready for the next one now. So far we have two suggestions, Alpine Aire and Nitro-Pak - both good ones IMO!! Any other suggestions/consensus??

I dealt with AAOOB foods a few earlier this year. They were extremely pleasent to work with- answered any question I had, even called me back on something that they were back ordered on just so I’d know it’d be shipped later. They have just about everything any prepper could want and in many different quantities. They are in Louisianna. Might you give them a try?

A thought- do you think you can get ordering info from MREDEPOT? Like after a week- how much increased $ came in just from the Fluwikie promo? If it was substantial, and I’m certain it will be- it might be just the thing to convince another company to do the same thing for us. I hope the butter, cheese and meat manufacturers can keep up with us!
