I ordered my daughter an Apple Ipod for her 15th birthday and have been tracking it’s progress since receiving the Fed Ex tracking number.

It left its origin in Suzhou, China at 8:15 PM on August 14th and the Fed Ex web site shows an estimated delivery on Aug 17 at 10:30 AM.

With this kind of distribution of consumer goods originating at the factory in China and not even spending time in any kind of stocking facility in the US, I could easily see “patient zero” being someone who has never traveled to Asia or even encountered someone who has been to Asia.

A package could easily be sneezed on before leaving China and still have live virus on it when it gets to its final destination in the US. Kinda Scary.

As I recall during the SARS panic, Overnight Federal Express was holding packages for a week to 14 days to be sure that there was no contagion. It was really a problem for the NY fashion industry as they were trying to ship their designs and prototypes back and forth for the new season —

Of course, that was AFTER SARS was loose.
