Forum: Question Fluwikidotcom Vs Fluwiki2dotcom

The main page for fluwiki.com is a bit different than the main page for fluwiki2.com. I know that the current forums are stored on the fluwiki2.com server, but why the difference in the main pages? I have been an avid reader of the fluwiki for many months now and I just realized today that the two are different. Can somone please explain the difference to me (or direct me to an explanation that I have missed).

If all you type into your browser is fluwikie2.com then you’ll arrive here looking for the default home page. With this software, that’s Main.HomePage. In other words, while we can have the rest of the links in the Main category point back to the other server it’s necessary for this one to have it’s own copy of the home page.

Does that answer the question?

ChuckEat 12:42

ok, but why not have it be an exact copy? The 2 main pages are different. Is this just because the fluwiki2 main page is not updated to match the fluwiki main page? I am not very web page savvy but I am trying to learn. Thanks for trying to explain this to me.

You can’t just copy the home page from one server to the other. All the links to other pages in the wiki would have to be edited each time. I imagine the people who are maintaining the home page aren’t worrying as much about the one on this server because it isn’t as critical. People who come here are looking for the forum and if they’re not — if they click on a link for anything but the forum — they’ll soon enough find themselves on the other server.

Edited ‘cos I tried to use message board markup. I also have a habit of using wiki markup in blog comments which doesn’t work well either.

pogge---I just took a look, and one thing I did notice is towards the bottom of both servers’ Main pages, where it says what the FluWiki is not, it mentions “a discussion board”. Is there any way to re-word that to differentiate between FW and FW2? I realize that FluWiki itself is not a discussion board, but FW2 is the Forum, which is…

It may be a moot point, ‘cuz if a visitor is on FW2, they certainly will realize within a short time what the Forum is…

Maybe it should be edited to say “a general purpose discussion board”. Or something like that.

Bronco Bill – at 13:22

That would work. “The FluWiki is NOT a general-purpose discussion board. All discussions should be PanFlu and flu-prep specific”.

Actually, that could also go into the Board Rules…

Ok now I get it. Thanks. I will have to bookmark the main fluwiki so that I stay up to date on current events that may not be posted on the fluwiki2 main page. no problem. thanks again.

So if I find fluwikie2.com down some day, would there be a chance that the mail fluwikie page would be running. If so what is the address for the main page please. I think I used to go there, but several months ago I just bookmarked the forum page.

ChuckEat 14:35

www.fluwiki.com But the links on that page for the forum take you here fluwiki2.com.

pogge – at 14:45

The direct link to the wiki is www.fluwikie.com. Note the e. The link ChuckE supplied will get you there too but it’s on a redirect.

It would take a serious problem to take both sites down at once. They’re on completely different servers.

Thanks much, I will have both in my Favorites in case one does not work. Always like to have a back up plan.
