It occurs to me that most NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprophen, are recommended in the treatment of flu. I have been searching for whether this holds true for Meloxicam (Mobic). I’ve noticed this topic hasn’t come up before on the website. Is anyone aware of whether Mobic could reduce inflammation with flu symptoms? I know it worked wonders on my ankle when nothing else seemed to touch the inflammation or the pain. It seems to be mainly prescribed for arthritis, but I wonder if it has any off-label uses?

I’m sure as useful as other NSAIDS. Nothing specific about meloxicam that would make it any more effective that I know. Lets see if we can page one of our resident pharmacologists…..

De jure, one thing that concerns me about anti-inflammatory drugs is that some ,such as ibuprofen, have an anti-clotting effect. This may be undesirable since bird flu causes bleeding in the lungs. If Mobic does not have this side effect, then it may be of help.

GI bleed, GI ulceration, stroke (I would assume, hemmorhagic) are the first three listed under “serious adverse reactions”.

MAV in Colorado, that’s why I need to get more information on this drug. It seems contradictory to me that it can be anti-clotting and yet cause strokes (isn’t a stroke caused by a blood clot?) I wonder why more hasn’t been said about this drug (very little on WebMD on other sites). I know from personal experience that it works, and works very well on inflammation. I was just wondering if it would work on the kind of inflammation experienced in the lungs during a severe H5N1 infection. Anyone else have any experience with this drug?
