I was in a meeting recently and here is one of the medical/pharma interventions for panlfu being discussed: throw a steroid blanket over the most epidemiologically at risk individuals (the kids and young adults). What does the hivemind think of this?

I’ve long that a inhaler with a steroid to slow the cytokine storm would be a nice prep item. Then a doc shared his dosage for slowing the cytokine storm using very common and on the market for many years low dose blood preassure meds. I immediately think it should go to first line response, because it’s shows some benefit on WN patients, and while this info wasn’t new to me or the threads, he did share a dose by weight. So go check out that thread too for ideas. Can’t rmember the name of it—I’ll post and go look for it.
Enza: Check thread Possible general viral antidote thread. Steroids can be bad news when used with a virus, like exposed to chicken pox virus. I wouldn’t want it to be the first line defense because of side effects if used on the wrong person.

I wrote up about this a while ago, about the possible use of physiological doses of steroids. Give me a day or two and I will find it, or I will re-write it properly. The issues are complex, controversial, and may have major implications, so it’s important to get it right. I’m a little under the weather this week, and have a large backlog of work already. So bump this up or ask again if I don’t write anything in 3–4 days. Thanks!
