OK. I’m having one of my severe stupid attacks again.

I downloaded the big 500Meg iso file. Burned it on a CD.

Everything fine so far.

Now how do I open it? It ask for a program to use, if I pick “Use the web service search tool to find the appropiate program” It goes to this site http://tinyurl.com/zdr2j which is a blank page.

I read through TLFCP 4 post and for the life of me didn’t see it addressed.

I can’t wait to open it. That 160 page download is Great. I found the section on clearing lungs especially interesting.

Thanks for the help!

fredness – at 16:18

The main page for the cd is index.html. Open it with a web browser. A few pages aren’t formatted well when viewed with FireFox, I don’t know why.

JWB – at 16:22

Use a web browser? OK. I use netscape which it had originally suggested. Nothing happened. Maybe I was too impatient. I’ld give it another shot and let you know. Thanks fredness!

fredness

I tried both netscape and IE. Both make the cd spin for about 3 minutes but nothing. The netscape does have a dialog box pop up immediately saying “The file”PandemicReferenceguides.iso” is of type application/octet-stream, and Netscape does not know how to handle this file type. This fileis located at D: “

then it ask what to do

open it with default app

open it with blank

save it to disk

Did I need to download anything else? I just have the iso file.

Thanks for your patience!

lugon – at 17:41

Not “save it to your disc”, but “create a disc from the ISO file”. An ISO file is a copy of the zeros and ones in the same order as they are in the disc - it’s not a normal file (normal files retain their integrity no matter where they sit on the disc, but iso files only make sense with things placed in the original position). (I don’t know how to explain it better, sorry.)

JWB – at 17:55

Thanks lugon,

I found this http://tinyurl.com/bmh9o which has enabled me to open it directly from my harddrive.

Cool beans! It’s like being on the web without the web! All stuff hand picked by fluwiki! Thanks all!

I got alot of reading to do! This is a great asset to have.

Thanks again to everyone who made this possible!

Sorry to interrupt but I have looked and I can’t find the iso.

Could anyone point me to the correct location

Thank’s

Back up to Part 4 of this thread. see fredness – at 13:41

there is a link there.

fredness – at 19:10

I think Dude planned to put the CD image on the ftp server called singtomeohmuse (at the top of the page). You can find the CD image (ISO) file on www.pandemicreferenceguides.com

Cdn_Graham – at 19:59

Thank’s

Yes I did, but I have had a series of computer meltdowns. Sorry. The life you live is never the life you plan for. Grin. Always sumptin. Do you want the ISO file itself? I think I have the download of it somewhere on one of the substitute computers I have been using. I will look or get the download again if I have to. (“now, lets see, all I have to do is find that network switch and connect both computers to my network, where did i put that extra cat5e cable, oh i can make one…then i have to tell the dhcp server to give me another fixed ip address and get it on the same workgroup, no wait - hmm it is too big to fit on my thumb drive, but wait i have that new large capacity IDE i just got and i can just install that in my external usb drive enclosure, once I get the files for the school off it and i do that image, but i have that on line class…..”) and you wonder why we geeks talk to ourself. Grin. Soon.

Hey all, after reading Dem’s post on the last thread about it being easy peasy I was inspired to try downloading this myself. I only know enough about computers to get myself into trouble. I’m having problems with the iso. I’m running a mac. I downloaded the iso last night. it appeared like a new drive icon. I burned it to a disc. I can open the drive icon and a series of files apears. click the index.html , open with safari, and it doesn’t look anything like a web page. What am I doing wrong?

I LOVE this idea of having all this info available with out the web, thanks for all your hard work.

Question, how up to date is it? are there plans to update it regularly? It seems like there is always something new going on…

Tomo, try opening it with Firefox, and try opening it with Safari on your hard drive before you burn it. Does either work?

I also have a Mac and it worked well.

DemFromCT, I tried opening it up from my hard drive and had the same result. It opened to a page that said Pandemic reference guides then had a list of links under it called “subglobal8 link” It didn’t look like a web page at all. I don’t have firefox, at least it’s not listed in my applications folder. I’d really like to make this work, the info looks invaluable, thanks for the help.

fredness – at 13:53

Regarding the Pandemic Reference Guides website/cd, some of the pages don’t look right with FireFox (at least not version 1.5 I have at work). Most pages look fine. You may see the subglobal8link which is something built into it by the guys who created the webpages as a framework. All pages look ok on Windows using Internet Explorer. Titles in bold text takes you to the local copy of the document. URL addresses work on the internet. I might need to work on it using FrontPage.

On Nov 1, I added the new guide from Dr Woodson “Good Home Treatment of Influenza” and updated the link to Will’s prep book. Added a readme file to the cd also. I lost my download ISO fille link of the main page. I also need to reupload the latest ISO. Should be able to get that done sometime this week.

The index.html file is the front page. Start there.

When selecting “Emergency Preparedness / Individual” from the links in the left margin, I get a runtime error in line 35: ‘menuitem7.thediv’ is null or not an object. The runtime error cannot be cleared or ignored, so the full page and its links cannot be accessed. I am using IE 6.0.

fredness – at 15:55

I am using IE 6 also but don’t get the same error. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll ask my friends.

fredness - some feedback

try setting off the “internet access required” parts of the cd with a different color, background or text color formatting.

I guess this comment reflects my interests… having a resource that works when the internet infrastructure doesn’t.
