Forum: Major Earthquake Possible-southern CA

17 November 2006

rutsuyasun – at 18:53

This post is a prediction/warning of a major earthquake in the next few days in California, particularly Southern California. It is also a test for Flu Wiki.

A research group of seismologists has been developing a formula to predict earthquakes. Below are a few examples of their latest predictions, to verify their accuracy. This warning was given late on Wednesday night and has a span of 5 days, although that could be give or take a couple of days.

The website from which I took this information is here if you would like to follow the information there; it is posted in the “All things earth related” secion.

Let’s all pray that this warning does not come true, or if it does, there will be as little loss of life and injuries as possible.

EARTHQUAKE PREDICTIONS: TO VERIFY ACCURACY

These are predictions made by a research group of seismologists, posted on TRC by one of their contacts.

PREDICTION #1: « on: November 08, 2006, 02:48:14 AM » Next quake activity expected in ALASKA in the next 24 hours. If a quake of 6.0 or higher occurs, then look to the west coast of the USA within 48 hour of that.

CONCERNING THE POSSIBILITY OF A LARGE QUAKE IN CALIFORNIA, PARTICULARLY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Following is an article describing the fears of two eminent experts in seismology that a major quake in California could be imminent.

“CU Professor Worries About Possible Mega-Quake” (AP) BOULDER, Colo. A University of Colorado professor said in a published report Friday that the world may be on the brink of a massive earthquake.

In a paper published in the journal Nature, geology professor Roger Bilham said an earthquake of the magnitude he thinks is coming occurs only once in a thousand years.

A quake registering 8.0 or above would dwarf the temblor that killed thousands last year in the Pakistani region of Kashmir.

Bilham said there remains pent-up energy in the earth’s surface that must be released through a mega-quake. It’s the kind of quake that can completely erase entire cities.

Geophysics professor Roland Burgmann, at the University of California - Berkeley, studies earthquake cycles. He said Bilham is on to something and conditions are probably ripe for a massive quake. http://tinyurl.com/yexapm

PREDICTION: CALIFORNIA !!!!!!

Made on November 15, 2006, 11:11:51 PM (with a 5 day window)

“I am being told that within 5 days. Earthquake in California. Southern part.”

(subsequent posts by the contact person who is relaying the warnings from the research group. BTW, all the info he has given on TRC has been corrorborated by subsequent events, (except in the realm of weather predictions, which can never be 100%)

Reply #1 “I would rather look like a fool versus it happening.”

“If you live in California be prepared for the next 5 days. The information and the triangulation is telling me a major quake in California. I hope I am wrong and I welcome that.”

“Prepare now and be ready!! I hope I turn out to be an idiot. Please, take precautions now.”

Reply #2 on: November 15, 2006, 11:19:38 PM »

“Review your plans and be ready. Over next 5 days. I hope nothing happens and it is wrong. Please be prepared my friends.”

Reply #3 on: November 15, 2006, 11:22:38 PM »

“Please implement your plans. Please”

« Reply #4 on: November 15, 2006, 11:28:41 PM »

“Please!!!”

This isn’t a disaster site, its a flu site – at 19:15

This post totally doesn’t belong here. Mods lock please?

The poster actually emailed me first, and I suggested posting it. We are not a generic disaster site, it’s true, although we have posted tsunami warnings fwiw. And this is an experiment in communication.

If you wish to consider this a rumor, so be it, and take it no further.

I will close the post to further comments.
