So now what do we make of this information?

exactly the question I have been asking. notice they had no symptoms just antibodies is this a good thing?

Eccles – at 00:10

This might not be a bad thing. This might suggest that there are asymptomatic infections which would therefore render a lower CFR than has otherwise been assumed from the data we have seen thus far.

I yield to those who are more medically astute than myself to answer this authoritatively.

Were they taking tamiflu?

Is WHO adding these cases to their case total?

JV – at 00:38

As of 9/14, WHO has not added these cases in Korea.

Does anybody know if this is perhaps a different strain than in China and Indonesia? also-maybe they are just reporting it now because WHO changed the criteria for reporting cases?

Leo7 – at 01:03

Definetely antibiodies are a good thing. I think this story came up before—maybe Vietnam? Maybe mods know. These aren’t flu cases it just means they were exposed and didn’t develop symptoms. They were picked up only because of a blood test.

Blue Ridge Mountain Mom – at 01:08

Only being picked up because of blood test would seem better than the study just done in Cambodia which did not find any antibodies.

Leo7 – at 01:21

Yes, it gets confusing. I think there are many strains of this H5N1 and what happens to the human is dependent on which strain. I wondered if South Korea was studying the workers for prevention or for some specific purpose? The question has always been why haven’t more of the people who do the culling or maintain the large flocks dropped like flies? My guess is they developed antibodies or maybe the mild strain has already come and gone. I don’t know more than you do, I’m speculating.

Here is an article posted on the Indonesia Outbreak thread about having found different ‘types’ of H5N1. It looks like different types for different areas.

Maybe exposure to the low path would create antibodies for the high path? I would think that the WHO would want to run right over to S. Korea to study these people.
