I stumbled across this the other day http://fluplan.larimerhealth.org/
I only browsed a little. Looks good. Haven’t borrowed anything yet or made certain they know this site.
Haha. I went, looked around, and I think that it`s OUR Will`s baby. There is a link to his book here, and a spot on our PA Week.
That’s the county where I grew up; my parents & sister are still there. Gives me some hope…a bit anyway. If I recall correctly, someone posted a while back about the emergency director for the county not really believing in ‘all that bird flu hype.’ There was ensuing discussion about how much would actually be implemented. Of course, things have gotten more serious since then, so hopefully everybody’s on board now.
It’s still light years ahead of most places, though!
FWIW, Larimer County is also where Colo State Univ is located. There was a blurb in the news thread last week that the big vet school there was just given 2 million dollars to research avian influenza. And I know that’s where they’ve done much of the LPAI testing before sending it on to the CDC.
They have a lab there that researches all avian diseases. They were at the center of the West Nile research. It was shortly after they began that research that West Nile had a record outbreak in the Northern Colorado area. A lot of local scuttlebutt hinted at the possiblity their security was a little less than stellar. Let’s hope they are a little more careful with the avian flu research materials.
they’ve been in touch with us and we with them ;-)
The lab? Excellent. Are they planning to post any findings here, or are they too regulated? (And, please for the sake of us locals, ask them to be especially careful!) [winking back at you…]
Sorry, not the lab, but folks in the Larimer County DPH. Very proactive people.
This should be of special interest to those reading this thread:
