AATW??

AVanartsat 12:45

2 cases of the instant milk substitute and one case of the powdered whole eggs.

MO Molly – at 12:48

I used the AATW just yesterday and got the 10% off.

worldman – at 13:01

dried fruit and tvp, eggs

EMTimat 13:58

I was about to place a small order - 1 can eggs, 2 cans cocoa and 3 cans of freeze dried vegetables. After seeing this thread though I decided to wait a few days to see what happens. I’ll probably place a similar order next month.

bird-dog – at 14:01

After looking more closely at Honeyville’s grains and beans and seeds, I guess that I wouldn’t order from them. They don’t offer products in long-term storage buckets nor do they say they have non-GMO or organic. I’ve already bought several cases of fruit, veggies, whole eggs, some cocoa and oats, etc. from them months ago. I’d possibly buy from them if the discount was 21% and non-GMO. I know… picky, picky, picky. Better to have frankengrains than none at all, I guess…

AAOOB >>> http://tinyurl.com/tc3cg <<< is where I’d like to go if only I could afford them! Maybe I’ll just order some cans from these guys…

Annoyed Max- Not mad yet – at 14:32

I would easily spend a couple hundred bucks with these people. I have used them twice now and their products are excellent. As a side note if your going to buy powdered milk or eggs and want to put them in buckets, wear a dust mask cause its a dusty project.

Annoyed Max- Not mad yet – at 14:42

I tried the soy “meat” stuff but it was from another company. It was imitation beef jerky and I swear you would never know the difference if someone didn’t tell you. It would be great as chili or pasta sauce. I would buy more now that it has the Annoyed Max seal of approval.

Lavendergrl – at 14:45

fruit celery carrots

I like their products a lot.

I bought TVP but I haven’t opened it. I don’t think I’d buy it again, it sorta grosses me out. I’d spend the money on canned ham, chicken, beef, and the shelf-stable summer sausage that’s in the stores for the holidays.

I eat the steel cut oats all the time. They’re an acquired taste. Good for you, and equivalent to sending your colon to the carwash.

Lavendergrl – at 14:56

Color me stupid, but I thought the TVP was probably like…paste. Has anybody tried it in the Honeyville brand?

AVanartsat 15:10

I would bet that the TVP products all come from the same maker and are labled under different names, but I suppose I could also be wrong.

I have a bunch of the TVP products, in #10 cans and also a couple of 6 gal buckets.

It is my understanding that the current products are much better than when I last used TVP over 20 years ago, and it was pretty good back then. If prepared properly, TVP can be an excellent substitute for ground meat products.

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 15:15

Wait a minute….is this the official notice of a Group Buy???

FPiSC was going to start a thread of this title when there actually is something set up — Is this it or is this a place for wish-listing?

Edna Mode – at 15:20

TVP comes in granules, chunks, strips, you name it. Not necessarily all from Honeyville in those various shapes/sizes. You’ve all (probably without knowing it) eaten TVP. It’s commonly added to fast food as a filler. Actually healthier for you than the “real” meat they use.

I’ve used TVP granules in things like spaghetti sauce, meatloaf, etc. It’s essentially used the same way ground meat is.

If you’re not sure you’ll like TVP, buy a small amount from a health food store and sample it first.

As for ordering from AAOOB, I like AAOOB’s stuff, but the shipping ends up costing more than the food itself. You can get cheaper shipping by waiting for a pool truck heading to your area, but that can take up to three months. I don’t want to wait that long to get my food.

Honeyville is more expensive than AAOOB for straight product costs (in most instances), but when you compare total cost (product and shipping combined), Honeyville is almost always less expensive.

No, Honeyville doesn’t sell stuff already in pails. You have to do it yourself. However, I, personally, prefer to know what’s in my pails vs. taking it on faith that what I receive contains good quality contents and that the pails contain what I think they do. Don’t want any pandemic surprises.

Honeyville does sell pails and O2 absorbers. You need to order your own mylar bags from Walton Feed or Sorbent Systems in California. There are other sources, too. Just can’t think of them at the moment.

Word to the wise on ordering powdered milk…

I ordered 50# last spring, bagged it in mylar with O2 absorbers, then into food grade pails. At the time I ordered, I was under the distinct impression that it was ok for long-term storage. I now read on Honeyville’s site that they don’t recommend the milk I ordered for long-term storage. Grrrr. So…make sure what you order is appropriate for l-t storage.

And as far as bagging the milk myself, I thought I was saving money doing it that way. Not so. After I paid for 50# milk, the mylar, the pails, and the O2 absorbers, it ended costing just about the same (penny for penny) as buying two cases of the canned instant milk substitute. Lesson learned.

Bagging grains yourself is no problemo, but it is a two-person job, so make sure you have someone to help you.

What I need to order:

4 cases instant milk substitute

200–300# grains

1 case eggs

1 case TVP

Assorted odds and ends

Wish listing I believe.

Lavendergrl – at 15:37

How does the milk compare in quality to others you’ve tried?

Annoyed Max- Not mad yet – at 16:21

I haven’t made any of it up to actually drink. It looks just like the store bought boxes of powdered milk. It came in a 50 pound plastic/paper sack in a box. I think it took up two and a half 5 gallon pails when I was done. I second the two person team advice above, its not that hard to lift the bag but once its pouring out, getting it to stop pouring out quickly without making a mess is another story.

silversage – at 16:27

I’m-workin’-on-it

Looks like a wish list, I figured FPiSC didn’t need to do all the work. :-) I’ll wait a day or two and try and tally the results.

The thing to remember is the $4.49 shipping price and the fact that a 10% discount is currently available(AATW).

MO Molly – at 17:41

Drat the luck, I just ordered $100 worth of food from them Yesterday! Could still use a couple of cans of milk substitute, a can of powdered eggs and a can of freeze dried peaches.

Edna Mode – at 18:06

Keep in mind that the AATW discount is *supposed* to be for use by members of the Atkins All the Way diet support community (which I know nothing about, but stumbled across it many moons ago when Googling looking for Honeyville discounts).

K from Mi – at 09:20

I’m interested - money spent depends on discount given

Looking at a case of dried fruit and case of vegetables, maybe more

KMinFLat 10:44

I am looking to spend around $150 with Honeyville.

Bird Guano – at 10:52

2 Cases of FD fruit 2 Cases of FD veggies a couple cases of the milk substitute and probably a couple of cases of eggs and a case of egg whites

I also don’t like GMO grains, and the TVP I get from Lumen Foods, (which is also non-gmo soy).

Snowdog – at 10:55

I ran through the online catalog and quickly got up to $200 :-)

Bird Guano – at 11:01

Oh and add 50 lbs of buckwheat flour, so I can make my own soba.

mmmmmmmmmm

I’m good for a $500 order, easily.

NC Seeking – at 11:02

case of each milk substitute, eggs, veg & fruits

Joe from Ohio – at 17:24

hmmm…. about $300 I like their products. I’ve tried a few.

lohrewok – at 17:30

We got a case of the fruit smoothie awhile back and just tried one out. It was really nasty tasting. The hot chocolate is yummy though.

InKyat 20:34

I’ve ordered twice from Honeyville and probably will order again - likely about another $100 worth - in early January. I have 150 lbs. of grain sitting in the kitchen right now, waiting to go into buckets. (At my house, putting the grain into the buckets is a one woman job, and that woman isn’t very big. I lift the bag up on a chair and hold it in the midde while I’m pouring. That way I don’t pour out too much. The hardest thing is closing those buckets, especially for a small person. I stomp the top with my size 5 foot, holding the lid down with one hand and working my way around the bucket with the heel of my foot. It’s a very iffy process, and I have to get mightily determined to be successful at last. There must be a better way - anybody have suggestions? Do I need a rubber mallet?)

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 20:44

When you get an honest to god promise of a discount from these people start a new thread so those of us who are waiting for that info will see it please.

InKy, I either kneel on top of the bucket and press the lid down or use a mallet. And I use a metal bucket opener so that I don’t run the risk of breaking a plastic one

InKyat 20:57

I’m-workin’-on-it -

Thanks, I think I’ll get a mallet. I can stand on top of a bucket and that lid won’t pop on ;-).

BUMP I want more people to see this, so I can get a good deal - :)
