Forum: The Clinical Picture of H5n 1

What is excactly the H5N1 clinical picture like? On what day the patients become very, very ill? On day ten? If so, the death might be because of autoantibodies?

“Serodiagnosis depends on the use of paired sera collected at specified dates during the course of a patient’s illness, as dictated by the kinetics of the antibody response. Antibody can usually be detected 10 days post-infection; detection of antibody 9 days post-infection is rare. When the collection of paired sera is not possible, diagnosis can be made using results from a single serum sample evaluated together with clinical and epidemiological data.”

--- Just another sci-fi dream…

Flu is almost always treated by treating the symptoms.AF/PF will be no different. In a pandemic there will be shortages of antibiotics, and this makes choosing when to prescribe them more difficult. The community aquired pneumonias will come in, as they usually do, on the tail end of the flu. Is this a (bacterial)pneumonia or is this more of this (new)flu, which we have little experience treating? Am I even going to be willing to see patients if the CFR is, say, 10%( and is that unrealisticaly low?)? Will I be able to get an X-ray? A CBC? Too damn many unknowns. Kelly

is there a chance of contracting BF through your eyes ( if droplets hit your eye ? I know, dumb question, but I am new to this.

new to this – at 14:22: No, not a dumb question. Yes, many viruses can be “caught” via the membranes around the eye. Wash your hands A LOT and keep them away from your face. Kelly
