Forum: NEW Forum-What Threads Should We Bring Over

21 November 2006

DemFromCTat 14:01

In the new Forum, which opens Friday, it’d be nice to have some familiar material. We have brought over the latest news threads, and the lookout posts (all of them). Bronco Bill, who remains a deputy over there, is working on Flu Preps.

What else do you want to see at first? This will remain open for months, and we don’t have to bring everything. The Finding Preppers threads can just restart, though we can gather them for easy accessibility.

Let us know what, from here, you’d like to see there.

ChuckEat 14:11

state plan analysis thread might be nice to have even thou it wasn’t finished.

Alan the Pom – at 14:19

First many thanks for all your hard work, it is much appreciated by me and I would suggest many others, without this forum people like me would have serious problems.

My main thread interests are post that are to do with medical, preps and food storage issues.

Could you kindly advise how dumbo’s like ME, what action I will need to take once you are ready. Once again mant thanks. Alan.

anonymous – at 15:39

Alan, go to the top post, link and look around. Do not be intimidated, just go to the About box and click New? Start here. then come back and we’ll chat. ;−0

Dem- Just my small humble 2 cents worth.

New Egypt Cluster (still debating this one, but worth mentioning.) Mass evacuation to rual communities New lurkers welcome Important information from DOD Not bird flu, but close news Websites for prepardness supplies

DemFromCTat 20:05

Should we just start some of these anew? Like “new lurkers welcome” and even Egypt?

crfullmoon – at 20:12

There’s always the topic avoided by all levels of government/pandemic planning, especally when it would mean admitting the cfr might be worse than 1968;

the MFMP threads, or, if someone just wanted to gleam important bits out of them, because there are a few that everyplace should be made aware at, and shorten it up… I collect better than I summarize, (which isn’t saying much).

Pixie – at 20:45

anon_22′s threads on the IOM meetings

Any threads on the virus itself, which usually contain the latest scientific papers and commentary on them.

cottontop – at 21:09

Dem @20:05-

yes, that’s probably a good idea. The New Egypt thread, (ahem) ;-) , should be start anew. Would be great if someone could summarize it, when the new one is started. Alot of good info there.

DemFromCTat 21:21

Some of the threads, like the various Area Preppers will be started anew, with a link to the old one, just the way we do here. The Flu Prep and recipe threads will be imported.

The IOM and ASTHO meetings, certainly.

If anyone finds a thread we have left out, just go up to print in the upper right, cut and paste it into a diary there.

Ruth – at 21:36

A couple of questions… Do we have to give an e-mail address? Are you keeping them or posting them? I know we are still anonymous, but it does make us a bit more accessible. I guess, I wonder what you will use it for. Thanks. Site looks good.

DemFromCTat 22:11

Good questions.

Do we have to give an e-mail address?

yes

Are you keeping them or posting them?

They are hidden from everyone except pogge and I (unless you decide to post them). They are for making sure that people do not sign up multiple times from one email address. That’s not ethical (we have instances of people ganging up on someone or one person claiming to be three people in order to score points or win an argument talk to themselves or god knows why people do that (but they do)).

EnoughAlreadyat 22:22

YIPPPPEEEEE!!! There is a whole recipe section!! :)

EnoughAlreadyat 22:29

well… recipe collection. I guess eventually it can be a section. ;(

Wolf – at 22:49

Haven’t tried out the new whizbang forum, but am sure there’s much to recommend it technically.

Philosophically, I’d like to see a burial of past grievances. There has been a measurable loss to these discussions with the loss of contributors, recently and in the past. Certainly I agree that any forum is dynamic, but the fact that even today threads must be closed abruptly, even rudely, to avoid discussion on certain topics and personalities months after the banning of those discussions and personalities speaks volumes. There are embers under the peat.

It is a testament to the degree in which this site is valued that these embers abide. Set aside the differences. Allow the conversation to continue, here; don’t send ‘em up the road. Those you’ve chastised have wished nothing but the best, and perhaps held this forum to a higher standard than was attainable.

Still, you must try, yes?

Looks like the perfect opportunity.

fredness – at 00:04

Maybe you can see what looks most useful based on the index? http://fluwikie.com/index.php?n=Opinion.ForumTopics

DemFromCTat 08:39

Wolf – at 22:49

Sigh. Banning is a prerogative of the mods and not subject to discussion. So, to make sure you get the message - no, and stop asking. Abrupt is used when polite and subtle and nuanced do not convey the message. I regret it is necessary.

fredness – at 00:04

Re the Index, some of the threads there are time-limited. Finding Area Preppers will be restarted, not duplicated, and things that are stored can be linked to. But it is a good place for people to look at and decide ;-)

cottontop – at 09:03

Dem-

From the link that Fredness suggested, it’s really difficult to pick and choose. Is BB doing social prepping? I can’t remember which he’s doing. It’s all so important. Can we take all? ;-)

mountainlady – at 16:37

I would like the Rumors thread to be brought over. I find it interesting. :-D

DemFromCTat 16:52

mountainlady – at 16:37

All of them? The latest of them? or start a new one and link back?

Commonground – at 17:02

Start a new one and link back over.

Commonground – at 17:03

We can always copy and paste a particular “Rumor” into the new Forum if need be.

I got a lot out of this thread and would like to see it at the New Forum - I think there was more than one part.

The Worst Case Scenario Denial As An Adjustment Reaction

A useful subject tag could be “Mental Preparedness” - I think I remember several other threads that could be tagged under this category. There are so many people who have yet to navigate their own adjustment reactions.

prepmaniac – at 06:47

DemFromCT: @ 22:11

Do you and Pogge get an email address every time I post? I mean, do you already have it from this post?

Bronco Bill – at 07:32

prepmaniac – at 06:47 --- Once you register, it simply gets listed in the user database once. You never have to enter it again, and the software doesn’t flag the Mods with your email address each time you log in…

crfullmoon – at 09:22

(I read it as prepmaniac asking, “do you already have it from this post? “ on this forum…)

LifelongLearnerat 10:48

Err, I tried, but it’s still trying to load the front page several minutes later!!! This forum on the other hand is positively zippy today…. Tell us this is a one-off?

anon_22 – at 11:29

Dem is working on it, checking with the SoapBlox people.

Dr Dave – at 11:33

DemFromCT,

I do not recall seeing a discussion that addresses the needs of those living in multi-family dwellings. If one exists, let’s bring it over and reopen it.

DemFromCTat 11:40

Dr Dave – at 11:33

I don’t know that we’ve specifically discussed that - i don’t recall that we have. What do you have in mind as issues?

History Lover – at 12:03

If you haven’t already done so, could you bring over the state threads such as Lone Star State, Alabama Preppers, etc.? These threads are not used every day, but then they will suddenly get busy with a hot topic. I know that in the Texas thread people like to keep each other informed whenever there is a community meeting. Thanks.

DemFromCTat 12:12

yes, they’re all there in two ways… we are making new threads in a big table, and the new threads will link tot he old ones.

History Lover – at 12:21

DemFromCt - Thanks. I’ll check into it. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. We did.

Dr Dave – at 12:32

Dem,

There are so many issues, I don’t know where to start, but here are a few.

Type of dwelling: townhouse versus high-rise; condo versus rental. Exposure: south-facing windows versus north-facing or shaded windows. HVAC: whole-building units versus independent units; sealed windows versus operable windows. Proximity to street: private walk-in entrance vesus common elevator. Storage space: studio versus multiple bedrooms. Demographics and safety: demographics of building and nighborhood; potential for fire or crime. Water and personal hygiene: yikes!

This has the potential to become a huge subject. Think of the challenges of executing a successful SIP in a high-rise apartment that has roof-mounted central heat and air. Some of the airborne particles in your 8th floor studio could have been ejected from the lungs of a sick person on the 2nd floor.

What do you think? Do we have the collective experience and imagination to be of any use? I think we do.

MaMaat 12:55

Dr.Dave, I don’t recall any thread devoted specifically to this subject here, at least not in the recent past(tho I could be mistaken:-). I’m sure that alot of great ideas can be found through discussion between all of the resourceful people here. May I suggest that you start a Diary on the subject, maybe something like ‘Strategies for SIP in Multi-Family Dwellings’ or whatever you think is best. Let the hive mind loose on it!

DemFromCTat 13:00

And you now have the opttion of doing it here!!

http://www.newfluwiki2.com/frontPage.do

anonymous – at 17:01

Dr. Dave, I haven’t started to use the new forum yet, but I did a search of this forum for “apartment dwellers” and got a list of earlier threads, some general and some specific to multi-unit dwellings. I’m on my SIL’s computer and don’t know how to copy anything here, or I would help more.

Bronco Bill – at 17:57

crfullmoon – at 09:22 --- But we don’t post email address here on Old Yeller unless a user places it in their personal profile. On the other hand, the New Forum does request a valid email address during registration. But only one time, and never again…

DemFromCTat 18:06

Everyone here is not automatically registered, if that was the question. But now that the site is open, anyone can go register.

And your email is private.. register with it, and no one sees it but you and the site administrators. We need an email to send you your password.

Oh, and no more anonymous. And no one can pretend to be you.

Irene – at 18:31

Dr Dave:

I’ve created a diary and copied 3 old threads on the subject of multiple family dwellings to the new forum. Here’s the diary:

http://www.newfluwiki2.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=237

I can add a “1″ to the title so you can start a fresh diary as part “2″, or you can continue discussing the subject in the existing diary.

urdar-Norway – at 18:34
I will now bring my own mindtread over to the next forum, I will sure miss this mustard colorerd friendly place.
