Here’s the expert’s answer to a reader’s question about storing his Corvette over the winter in an unheated garage. The expert is columnist Bob Weber, “Motormouth,” from the Chicago Tribune, Nov. 19, 2006. Some information I’ve seen on Fluwiki sites before, but some is new.
A. Leaving a trickle charger on all winter may damage the battery. Charge the battery only when its voltage level drops or use a charger that senses the battery’s charge and switches itself on and off as needed.
We also would change the oil before putting it in storage and fill the tank before adding the fuel stabilizer.
If rodents or other varmints are a problem, put steel wool in the exhaust pipes and mothballs under the hood.
Leave the windows open a crack, enough to keep the air from getting stale but not enough for animals to get in. Lift the wipers from the windshield and place blocks of wood under them to prevent them from taking a set.
After waxing it, you may want to put a good cover on your ‘Vette, but not until you have jacked it off the ground and placed jack-stands under it to prevent flat spotting the tires.
Here’s a link, but I’m a subscriber, and the link may not work for everyone. I did copy his entire answer, but not the question.
