Forum: Charlie Gibson Rumor

Goju – at 22:46

I just saw an ABC TV News promo for Charlie Gibson. They are setting him up as “the man to trust”. The commercial was great - even I trust him now.

I bet you a can of beef stew that ABC will use Charlie Gibson to announce it.

They should do us all a favor and use him to “alert” us and get everyone prepping.

I vote for Charlie Gibson - I believe in you!

DennisCat 23:14

Sorry don’t know who Gibson is. (no network TV here - they (ABC) says we can’t get it on the dish because we can get it via the air- they are wrong).

I would think that the powers that be would use the surgeon general Rear Admiral Kenneth P. Moritsugu to make an anouncement. I think it needs to come from him even if Bush was on the stage.

Goju – at 23:23

If you want to avoid panic, use Charlie Gibson.

If you want katrina everywhere at once - use Bush

Bronco Bill – at 23:35

And I think we don’t need any op-ed political pieces here.

Pixie – at 23:41

Do you think it will be that neatly managed? Things just hit the airwaves all caddy wampus (great phrase I learned in Charleston, SC this summer!) and no one seems to have much control of it once it leaks out. The days of managed news and Walter Cronkite may be long gone. Although ABC may be setting Gibson up as the soothing voice in the storm, much as ABC sportscaster Jim McKay’s soothing voice carried us all through the terrible events of the 1972 Olympics. ABC just might have something like that in mind.

Worldman – at 23:51

did I miss something here? I just cant follow this thread. Did something happen? Help.

And Katie Couric as the “neighborhood mom” of news at CBS would also hint at a desire to soften things. CNN has been extending it’s prominent women as anchors as well. If things go bad, I’d see the desire to calm the public as speaking with a feminine voice (sorry Charlie) - or maybe asking Uncle Walter to step back to the microphone one more time. There would be no greater potential for mass, uncontrolled panic in my eyes as seeing President Bush or DHS Secretary step to the microphone and try to tell the US population not to panic - unless it was from VP Dick Cheney on Fox News telling us panic was unpatriotic and played into the hands of the terrorist. All IMHO and my worst nightmares.

Olymom – at 00:07

Worldman, Charlie Gibson is the news anchor on ABC news. He’s up against Katie Couric (formerly Ms. Perky of the Today Show) and Brian Williams is the other big news anchor. It’s mostly predigested pap. See if you can get CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Co.) with Peter Mansbridge. By FAR better and fewer advertisements of personal hygiene or bodily function products.

Goju: I printed off the charts from your site that showed Philadelphia vs. St. Louis mortality rates — do you have text/facts to go with them? I’m looking for something along the lines of “Mayor X did dadada while Mayor Y did soandso” I’m going to our school board soon and want to be correct.

preppiechick – at 00:29

Olymom-

I know your question was for Goju, but I think this may be what your looking for.(I hope this links okay, it is not available online, for free anymore, but it was copied at flutrackers, and it was the article completely, from the St. Louis Post dispatch. I live in that area, and it was a large section on Starkloff and the 1918 pandemic.

What he knew in 1918 could save millions

‘’What worked then in St. Louis was stern “social distancing” - the medical bureaucrat’s term for quarantining the sick and keeping everybody else as isolated as possible, all to check the spread of the disease through coughing and sneezing.

That “social distancing” of 1918 was the brainchild of the city’s health commissioner, Dr. Max C. Starkloff. Working with Mayor Henry Kiel, Starkloff closed schools, barred public gatherings and shut or limited businesses.

As a result, the city’s flu death rate for each 1,000 residents was 3.0 - the lowest big-city figure. Philadelphia’s rate was 7.3, and that was only third-worst among big cities. San Francisco’s rate ran to 7.6. In Pittsburgh, the figure hit 8.0.

Starkloff’s approach worked back then, and some experts think it could well work again.’‘

Olymom – at 11:44

Ah, Thank you!

Diana – at 13:03

Thank you preppie chick. I was trying to explain that quickly to a group of 22 people yesterday, who sort of snickered at the thought of prepping, but listened to social distancing and immune enhancement. I’ll hand this outtake around when next I visit that particular grouping of people. They are intelligent. Its time for the ideas to get into schools and libraries and the publics thick sculls.Social distancing is the only weapon. They were discussing vaccines, we are so used to the annual flu shot cutting down infection that people take vaccine availability for granted.

okcinder – at 15:35

Sorry, I am lost. Was it just a general ABC news commercial?

Grace RN – at 16:12

who are you kidding? we’ll be the first to know….and after that who cares who drops the second shoe on America…

Bubba – at 16:20

Thank God we have Bush! I trust him.

Goju – at 16:46

lol

OKbirdwatcherat 16:54

Goju - Was the title of the thread supposed to be “Charlie Gibson Humor” ;-?

Diana – at 17:12

I passed a man who had been at that meeting yesterday about Pandemic Flu. He lives in a retirement community along with a few others from that group. As a CPA he is interested mainly in Republican Politics, State Budgets and financial matters. I could have handed him the article on how much better St. Louis fared than other cities, but knowing him, it would either sit on his desk, or go into a waste basket. You have to pick people who will listen. I find women to be less Olympic in their attitudes. My generation of men prefer to be the ones with the answers and the agendas. Not all, but a goodly number. Out of 22, 8 were men. Two I know are know everything types, no dent is ever made in their way of thinking. 3 were men I didn’t know. And the other 3 were thoughtful types who have their own agendas but are quite open and flexible in their thinking. If it had been one of the last 3 I would have handed them the printouts and know they would both consider and pass on the article.

preppiechick – at 19:16

Diana-

Couple of funny things:

- Starkloff was supposedly tough (know it all?), but at least he had it right!

- that’s the problem that i see with todays doctors- the are treated like gods and believe that they know everything, but most that I know personally, don’t know about, or don’t want to discuss, AF

I really think that it has to be said by the surgeon general, etc. to be taken seriously, but no one will stick their neck out…

Orlandopreppie – at 19:29

This has been asked a couple of times, but nobody is answering. What are you guys talking about? Not everybody is aware of what you are referring to. There is nothing on the entire post that gives a subject. What Charles Gibson rumor are you referencing?

Worldman – at 22:32

orlandopreppie, thanks, I have been trying to figure out this thread also.

Thanks

On the fence and leaning – at 23:03

I don’t understand this thread BUT it has brought up a good point. Communication of future events through MSM will be extremely important. It will not be the time to jockey for high ratings through sensationalist coverage. A calm, cool, informative delivery will save lives.

If panic is what TPTB are afraid of, then they will try to alert the public in a reasuring way.

The ads being run by ABC TV News screamed to me that Charlie Gibson would be the person who was given the task.

Someone is going to do it and i doubt it will be a politicain or a doctor or scientist.

It will be a trusted news person. Someone we believe and trust. And I believe that person will be Charlie Gibson.

AnnaOat 10:21

I watched “The Charlie Rose Show” about a week ago. He was interviewing a man from CBS. I believe the chairman. Anyhow, he was talking about how they went from last to number 1 in the ratings etc.. One thing that he said stood out, “the average viewer of nightly news programs is 67 years old”. He said they have to do something to turn this around because in another 10 years their viewers will be dead. He also said that they were losing viewers to the internet and the days of the newscasters viewed as “gods” are dead. The nightly news has very poor ratings/viewers. This man also talked about Katie Couric and how she could attract a new generation of viewers. People want real news. The internet, blogs, etc. allow people to obtain as little or as much as they want and participate should they choose to do so. The importance of Fluwiki and others will be even greater as things heat up.

Goju, may I suggest that “Will Charlie Gibson be the one to announce Bird Flu?” or some such title might have been better for this thread?

There is no Charlie Gibson rumor here. Your intial post doesn’t even contain a rumor.

Tired of this – at 12:08

I believe that person will be Santa Claus.

My belief holds just as much water as yours. They both have the same foundation: a random thought with nothing behind it.
