I checked on the Forum Index and could not find this thread on this site so will start a new one.

Just saw the 72 hr. prep add by the Candian Government on our local TV station last night at midnight and have to say that this is the first add by the Government of this type that I have seen, so am curious as to why now?

We just had a interesting event happen in eastern Alberta this afternoon. The natural gas control system failed and shut off natural gas to aprox. 4000 homes for 4hrs. the temperature is 25 deg. C out with a wind chill down to 40 deg. C below. We have had some comments that the natural gas system is fail safe but it appears that may not be the case. Just food for thought for all people with out wood stoves as back up.

I thought of the possibility of having electricity but no natural gas at a specific point in time during the a pandemic. It seemed unlikely but I went ahead anyway bought a second electric portable heater just in case.

Maybe it wasn’t a waste of money after all. :)

HI all, I’ve been reading for a long time here and would like to say Thank you! Also, On the weather channel there is a warning about respiratory illness, has anyone heard this? Seems odd given the the timing and being Canadian. We don’t get warnings like this.

Homeschool4? — 29 November 2006, 04:17 Thanks for the heads up. Was the warning on the express view satalite system or some other source? Thanks

On the Weather network, and you could get there maybe by Weathernetwork.com I’ll have to check this out too.

I checked out the Weathernetwork.com site and they have a flu watch site but could not find any thing about a warning about respiratory illness. Any luck on your end Homeschool4?.

Nope, just the add on TV, sorry. Will keep my ears open for next time I have the weather channel on. Maybe, I could have a pen handy this time.

On a slightly different note, I have an emergency radio with weather channels, tv channels and I can set it for alerts warnings etc. Does anyone know why we get so many false alerts? Very annoying because it happens often in the middle of the night and says “there are no warnings at this time”. I’d ask at The Source but when I bought it the personnel knew less than I did about them.

I would return it to The Source and get a new one as that radio dose not sound as if it working properly and if the new one dose the same thing then you have at least narrowed the problem by eliminating the radio from the equation. I have one of these radios Eton FR300 and it seems to work fine in the central Alberta area. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks Sailor. I checked & I have the Eton FR400. I should have done as you say, I’ll check and see if they’ll do an exchange. I live about 10 kms from a small busy airport & I can see about 5 kms west of us in clear view small planes making their initial approach. I’m starting to think that this signal I get which is mostly during the middle of the night is coming from the airport. Frustrating as the alert went off again at 5:00 am this morning. Arghh! I don’t want to turn it off because that was the reason I got it.
