Forum: How Many Links Per Post

pogge01 December 2006, 19:43

I think the mystery of the disappearing posts has been solved. If you try to include more than one link in a post, when you click the post button your words of wisdom simply disappear. So at least until I can investigate, limit your posts to one link. I have no idea why this problem would surface in an upgrade but I’ll try and find out.

Never mind. A new variable was introduced in the commenting script that can be used to limit the number of links per post. It was set to 1 by default but I’ve increased it to 5. Will that do it?

pogge01 December 2006, 20:20

Renamed to reflect developments and bumped.

Jane?01 December 2006, 21:14

pogge, I did have 2 links in the last one that disappeared. May test it with 2 later. Thank you.

DemFromCT01 December 2006, 21:25

So you can put up to 5 external links but no more in a post. That should suffice.

Jane?01 December 2006, 22:03

The news thread just took a post with 2 links. Yea, pogge!

Bronco Bill01 December 2006, 22:53

pogge…you’re a genious AND a sleuth! Congrats on the finding. Five should be more than enough…the five that I had tried to post earlier were on FW2, the Solar Generators series of threads that had bad sidescroll (I know…you’re working on that too, but they are linked from the new Forum and I was trying to clean them up!)

I’ll remember not to post any more than 5 from now on..

THANK YOU for clearing that up..

pogge01 December 2006, 23:06

BB:

See my comments on the ask questions thread about links to other threads on the forum. There’s no limit on those.

Bronco Bill02 December 2006, 07:23

I did read that post, thank you. Clears a lot up about the new upgrade. We used to be able to post using the full URL of internal pages…that was how I closed threads. But, I see another way of copying the address without the http : // stuff---that’ll work for me. So, I can do this internally:

How Many Links Per Post or

Recipes Using Canned Dry Foods Only Part IX or

Dehydrator Questions and Answers or externally with the full URL:

Google or

HotSoup

Bronco Bill02 December 2006, 07:28

Very cool! Now, one other question, and I’ll leave you alone for a while :-)

For the purposes of this excercise, is the Wiki side (FW) considered an external server when I’m over here on FW2?

Hmmmm…let’s see:

Internal: About FluWiki? or

external: About FluWiki

Bronco Bill02 December 2006, 07:29

Hmmmmmmm…..

Bronco Bill02 December 2006, 07:41

One other Wiki side link, just for kicks and giggles:

Workplace Continuity?

Bronco Bill02 December 2006, 07:42

Hmmmmmmmmm…that answers my question. Shortened URLs for this server only. ‘sokay. Now we know, now we work!

Thanks pogge!!!

Does this limit on posts impact tables?

For example, if I was to build a table here like the Lookout Posts one that we used to include on the News Summary, will I blow myself out of the water?

Or is there no limit on ‘internal’ links?

Does linking to the new forum count as external or internal?

DemFromCT02 December 2006, 19:00

new forum is external. Internal is anything that’s on fluwikie2.com.

AnnieB03 December 2006, 20:52

Just asking ‘cause I wondered if creating a table here with links to all the Diaries on the new site might help?

With this limit, I cannot consider it really - unless I do separate posts for every group of 5 Diaries?

Let me know if you think it is worth the effort team
