It appears that many of the humans and fowl infected from the H5N1 virus die from virus symptoms, which include extremely high inflammatory response of the lungs and airways which results in life-threatening pneumonia and acute respiratory distress. While use of oral steroids such as prednisone wouldn’t “cure” the flu, wouldn’t steroids suppress the violent inflammatory response and avoid those life-threatenting symptoms? Would this be different than the use of statins for treatment, which seemed to follow the same logic?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Potential benefits don’t seem to outweigh the risks in ARDS, but experience in H5N1 related ARDS and comorbidities is lacking regarding steroid use. We’ll find out after TSHTF, because we’ll end up throwing everything we have at it unless a silver bullet is found.

If you suppress the immune system, the viral replication will continue unhindered.
