Sometime tonight, the new site will pass 20,000 visits and 250,000 page views. What’s more, beween the Flu Wiki and the two forums associated with it, we will have had 2 million visits and 10 million page views from all over the world. That’s a lot of activity, and it’s without counting any of the other active flu sites, blogs and forums (some of which are older than us).
But we have not yet succeeded in reaching everyone, cataloguing what’s known, or even in reaching consensus amongst ourselves as to where our risk assessment stands.
Have we accomplished anything? We hope so.
We have educated ordinary citizens about the differences between seasonal flu, avian flu and pandemic flu.
We have proven that given the right material, the right attitude and enough time, we can learn from the internet, the experts, and each other.
We have provided material for anyone starting out to get the information they need to prepare for a pandemic, should one happen (and we and the experts agree that at some point, one will).
We have pushed the Feds to create their own site(s), some public (pandemicflu.gov) and some private (Intellipedia).
We have shown that we, the people, can handle the truth if the truth is explained honestly and openly.
We have shown that we are prepared to act responsibly in the face of adversity.
Our goal remains the same - to be:
As long as those needs are there, we will be here plugging away.
Tomorrow, we start on the next ten million page views. We have more to do.
Will the ten millionth page viewer get a souvenir, like the fluwiki swan :-)
Or if technically feasible to identify the handle, and place it on the top of the page for a week.
I think it’s more like the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. If we try to peek at the exact viewer, it might turn out to be us. ;−0
LOL
bump
Maybe the ten-millionth visitor could receive a box of Tamiflu?
It’s exciting to see the New Forum get as much activity as it’s had….and we haven’t even been online 2 weeks yet!
Things are working smoothly, and as we work the kinks out, I believe the new discussion board is going to far surpass anyone’s expectations….it’s already passed mine.
Congratulations to DemFromCT, pogge, Revere, Melanie, SusanC, and all the others who made the new site work as quickly as they did…
