This is too good of a thread to let calcify.

BirdGuanoat 16:02

Not an endorsement. I’ve just used each of these places before with really good results.

slickdeals.net always lots of friday sales like Amazon.com

Buy.com occasionally has really good prices on exam gloves for pandemic PPE. I’ve bought cases of them, sometimes free shipping too.

ableshoppers.com lots of interesting deals, different each day

surpluscomputers.com picked up some cheap LED flashlights and other interesting things here

Actually, I just made a run to one of the local Big Lots and came away with some “finds.” Owing to the suggestions made on another thread I just happened to be comparing prices on the Hormel shelf-stable dinners. A lot of places were selling them for $2.50 each … found them at Big Lots for $1.50 each. Only two varieties at the Big lots I hit, but still a descent savings; and, it meant that I could try them as a potential prep without spending as much money.

Also found some shelf stable specialty milks … the use by date only went out to late October, but it will give me something to rotate through from preps to regular pantry … and the savings meant that the kids could have a treat without me feeling purse-guilty.

Also lots of other odds and ends goodies such as Hispanic groceries, canned meats (ham, oysters, crab, ets), and other odd flavors and discontinued flavors of stuff that I normally buy when I can find it on sale. And some fruit nectars that are shelf-stable until opened that have an spring ‘07 use by date which was a pleasant surprise.

I have had good success with “Don the Glove” for exam gloves (www.dontheglove.com). Buy 9 boxes and the 10th is free. Comes out to something like $4.50/box of 100 5mil nitrile gloves. Free shipping. No connection with the company, just have used them in the past.

Bird Guano, thanks for resurrecting this thread. I always liked this one and the “weekly deals” thread.

Real Kraft Canned Cheese (8 oz can) PER CASE (36 cans) and Red Feather Real Canned Butter (12oz can) PER CASE (24 cans)

Price $79.00 (either one) plus actual shipping per case {from Texas} (Hundredweight shipping discount for 8+ cases)

This is available thru a “Group Buy” at warrifles.com. You MUST be a member of warrifles.com to participate. This entails nothing more than giving them your e-mail address. The site is conservative politically and VERY pro-gun, with many members being survivalists. It is also VERY pro-family, in that it is a free of bad language and photo’s.

A married couple, whose screen names are Broadsword and Dijon have run MANY group buys and have negotiated a deal with the US importer of these two products. Normally a case of butter or cheese goes for around $110, shipping included. If you are interested, sign up and in the second main header (Survival Talk), the second thread is Survival Foods - Broadsword. Go to the first STICKY - “Canned cheese and butter group buy”.

I have NO financial connection or profit motive for posting this info. It is done only to help Flu-Wickians

Lisa in Southern Maine – at 21:42

scw az - I can’t believe you found canned butter! Yay! I’ve been looking for months - really appreciate this info! Thanks!

BirdGuanoat 22:21

I second the warrifles recommendation.

The group buys there are excellent and they use gearpay instead of Paypal.

I bought some great hiking shoes from this place, they came fast, and they were 70% off the normal price. They have lots of specials on closeouts and seconds on all kinds of outdoor equipment, supplies, sport and regular clothing. If you are not satisfied, they will refund upon return.

What can I say? Ebay! Also, thrift stores, Big Lots, and local Hispanic and Asian groceries. The other day I needed a small piece of fiberglass insulation, so I stopped by our local home construction area and asked the foreman if I could snag a piece out of the dumpster—no problem. It never hurts to ask!

SCW AZ--- have you ordered from this site, under the Group Buy? I am a little nervous giving my name, address, phone number and money to some person on internet. It isn’t like a business, unless I am missing something. Looking for some reassurance here!!

For people who are stocking up on arts n craft supplies and things for the kids, or for office supplies such as tape and glue — try www.discountschoolsupplies.com. Excellent prices, delivery often the next day if you orer on-line. I’ve used the for several years — after the first order you usually get free shipping for orders over $59. I order paper, paints, and so on (plus extra for gifts) about once a year. They have very low prices and a lot of items in bulk.

Green Mom – at 18:25

Heddie at 23:11- Ive used Sierra Trading post for years and have allways been very pleased with them. I’ve had to return things a couple of times (fitting problems only, quality quite good) and it was no problem.

Look around for bakery outlets-almost everyplace I have lived has had one though you have to look for them. Really great prices there!

If you need building materials check to see if there is a Habitat ReStore near you. Run by Habitat for Humanity, they sell donated building materials at great prices.

Lisa in Southern Maine - I have discovered clarified butter - it has a surprisingly good, nutty flavor, needs no refrigeration, and has a very long shelf life. It is also known as “Ghee”, the Indian name for it. Health Food Markets carry it (I bought a 13 oz jar of the Purity Farms brand for $8.69.) Pricing on the internet is higher. The best price I found was for $9.99 at the following website (to which I have no affiliation at all):

Ghee

Ghee is a great butter solution for situations where no refrigeration is available.

anyone have a good source for rechargeable batteries?

The Captain – at 16:48

T.I.A.

For all types batteries I have used www.thomas-distributing.com.

I have no affiliation with them and a Google search(rechargeable batteries) will get you several other trophies to choose from.

Mari – at 19:31

Take a look at your local Radio Shack for rechargeable batteries and battery chargers.

A local freight company around here sells a lot of useful things … flashlights, tools, rechargeable batteries, etc. Sometimes you find the best prices in the most unexpected places.

Dennis in Colorado – at 13:27

Kathy, Harbor Freight Tools?

heddiecalifornia – at 14:04

Not quite ‘discount’ but still pretty good —

Trader Joe’s has a very large selection of dried fruits and various types of nuts and seeds, both raw and roasted, salted and unsalted, and sulfered and unsulfered.
    Also cereals and whole grains.
Also TJ’s has pretty good low cost bottles of Wine — they have “Charles Shaw” Merlot, Cabernet, and Chardonney. Out here in California they are only two dollars a bottle, which is why we call them ‘two buck Chuck’ wines. Really good as ‘everyday’ wines, comparable to some $10.00+ a bottle wines. They are blended from available wine bought from multiple vineyards.
Also found boxes of crackers for 80cents each at Big Lots, pasta for about half the grocery store price, good prices on canned fruit. There is a section or link on prepping food storage somewhere here on Fluwicki that includes information on the shelf life and dating codes used on canned food and other packaging that you should take with you when buying canned foods.

The Home Depots near Boston have been having their summer clearance sales (not sure if it is national). They have Kimberly-Clark N95 fold-flat masks in a 20 pack for $13.19 (66 cents a piece). I am hoping Walmart and Target will have their camping (summer) clearance in the next few weeks. Last summer I was able to pick up Coleman Extreme 5 day coolers for $5 each, reg. retail is $29.99.

Dennis in Colorado – at 16:34

Thanks, Dan. I just checked Home Depot’s online catalogue and found “3M N95 Fiberglass Particulate Respirator (20 Pack)Model 8210-C Price: $16.89/ea.”
That was the only thing that came up with a search for “N95.”
You may be right that your store’s Kimberly-Clark masks are a local sale item, but I will check at our local Home Depot.

silversage – at 16:44

N95 masks are different from N95 particulate respirator masks. The latter being more expensive, but both of those are decent prices. I’ve noticed where I bought mine the price has increased by $10 from $25 to $35 for a pack of 10. And the ladies sizes have always been higher at $30 for a pack of 10(respirator type).

Lets not forget freecycle……free stuff is always the best!

There is a freecycle in just about every city now. You just go to freecycle.com and follow the links to your city.

I was browsing Amazon this morning when I came across the Emergency Preparedness store (motto: Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best). Prepping supplies in all categories, links to Red Cross, National Hurrican Center, etc. Appears be targeting hurricane season.

Currently they offer a $25 discount on purchases over $199.

Just placed an order for Honeyville & used that AAWT code for a discount — and got it!!! It’s a code someone found from a previous year, but it’s still working so…….try it yourself! :-) It saved me $10 or $11, I can’t remember which but right around there!

If I remember correctly Survival Acres is having a sale on a LOT of their food!! I’m eyeing the big buckets of TVP — and they have bacon flavored TVP in smaller cans. I’d forgotten that even existed!!

Ooh, I was just getting ready to place a Honeyville order…what was the code??

(Rats, now I’m wondering if the freeze-dried strawberry discount code that I just deleted because it was supposed to have expired at the end of Aug would have worked anyway.)

silversage – at 09:50

AAWT

Petticoat Junction – at 09:55

I just tried ‘AAWT’ but it didn’t make a difference at the checkout; they may have pulled it by now.

anonymous – at 10:45

No, the code for the 10% discount with Honeyville is “AATW.” Stands for “Atkins all the way.”

Petticoat Junction – at 10:48

Thanks so much ~ AATW worked!

I’m-workin’-on-it – at 11:42

Well there you go - don’t ever rely on my typing!! I’m glad to know I’d typed the code wrong, because I may have set it up on my computer calendar incorrectly & now I’ll go check to see!

Harbor Freight is running a 2-gallon pump sprayer for $10, half price. It’s intended for garden spraying, but I remember someone mentioning using a sprayer such as this for showering. Looks like just the thing!

Oh, I wanted to mention the sale is good through October 16, 2006.

Sportsman’s Guide has 6 packs of solar lights for $19. ($17 if you are a club member)

Not that difficult to replace the el-cheapo batteries with some 2800mah Nimh AA cells, and get an entire night’s worth of light out of them.
