Need help and couldn’t find Grain thread.
I have stored my grain in mylar bags, oxy absorber and desicante. Sealed them via heat process. Put the bags in 5 gallon buckets inside another sealed mylar bag with oxy absorber and desicante sealed mylar bag with heat, then sealed bucket with 5 a lid with gasket.
Question: Is it too late to freeze my bags for insect control? I am concerned about condensation in the grain. The 5 gallon buckets fit in my freezer.
Thank in advance for the help.
My thoughts would be that with oxygen absorbers and dessicant inside any excess moisture would be eliminated and that it would be safe from condensation inside. I would place them in the freezer for 3–4 days. I have read that 3 days is enough, but I would allow an extra day to get the contents “down to temperature” first. I have done this with flour too and then stored it in a 55 gallon drum filled with nitrogen gas.
I do not know if you know the product named steel silo, which is used for grain storage. You can use it to avoid the control of the insects.Actually, there are many people using it for storage of grain. If you are interested in it,please contact me,because I can supply this product.OUR website is www.zbboda.com e-mail:happyxxy1983704@yahoo.com.cn msn:happychinesewoman@hotmail.com
It’s never too late, but the lack of oxygen will have eliminated any pests that might have been in your grain.
I have lots and lots of grain also, and vacuum seal it, and have not had any problems.
Shad.
