This thread is just to accumulate information on the cases in Indonesia so we can see in summary form what is happening.

Thanks all for your work in creating these summaries.

Commonground – at 08:29 Tally of statistics since we began this thread. This includes individuals who have tested negative and have been released from the hospital.
8/26 - 50 8/27 - 59 8/28 - 63 8/29 - 74
This kind of summary works best for most people. Please atleast once per day, could you continue this Commonground?
Commonground 8:29
I appreciate the tally. One thing that concerns me is that we really do not know the tally of actual cases. Seeing as people on tamiflu are testing negative, and seeing as there is the chance people are being hospitalized who do not have H5N1, and seeing as you find what you are looking for (observer bias), I’m lost as to what is really, actually going on.
Does anyone have a sense of what the “real” tally is of H5N1 cases? Can we have some criteria for judging “for sure”, “probable”, “doubtful” designations on the cases that did not test positive? For example, people who died and were also exposed to H5N1, we might designate as “probable”
This is just something that has been nagging me since you all started compiling this list. Perhaps I’m missing that you have all weeded out the “doubtful” cases already, in which case it is quite alarming to see the numbers up to 74.
Here is a breakdown of stats from our latest Summary
Total (includes people sent home):
Tested Positive: 5
Tested Negative: 11
Released: 10
Died: 8
As you can see by the above, there is a lot that we don’t know.

Thanks for posting the map. I will try to email you a map every few days that matches the summary posted by Michelle in OK. I think it helps to have a visual reference to go with the data.
Everyone else, please note that I did not have a geographical point that matched “Turikale Dist, S or SE Sulawesi” and “Simulungun, N Sumatra” so I placed text in the general location of these areas. I am still in the process of finetuning the geographical data in my GIS/ArcMap project for Indonesia. Hopefully it will get better and more accurate with time.
Thanks. I’ll post them when you send them.
(map bumped up to top by anon_22)
The six people (Jaelani, 36 years, Nursari, 46 years, Saiful, 28 years, Hernan, 21 years, and Dg Sallang, 65 years) are in the city of Maros, which is in the District of Turikale, which is in South Sulawesi close to Ujung Pandang on the west coast close to the southernmost tip. Here’s a map: http://tinyurl.com/h95gs

Thanks for the info. I will make corrections when I redo the map in the next few days.
Friends, Hit ‘print’ (upper right corner of this page) for easier viewing of this thread. You see no side scroll that way.

Please note that in the map above, the numbers in white font are of all cases that were reported in news media as suspect H5N1. Some are still suspect, some have tested positive, some negative, and for some no test results have been repoted.
Although some have been reported H5N1 negative, there is still a question of false negatives occuring. For this reason, the map appears as it does. As more information becomes available, and/or the summary process is fine tuned, the appearance of the map should change.
Does the latest map replace the 17:04 one? That may be the one causing sidescroll in which case I can delete it.
I have a suggestion. If you want, we can put the map at the top of the page. If there are new edits, Okieman or whoever can email Dem or me, and we will replace it with the latest. That way, we can keep having one updated map at the top of the thread, with the updated date.
Please put the map at the top of the page. It is a very powerful visual.
done!
Looks great.

Shall I post the map also?
Yes, please. The latest version is here in .pdf:
http://www.fluwikie.com/uploads/Geographic/Cases3.pdf
I’m working on converting it.
I just uploaded the file “cases” from the link provided by DEM. Let me know when an update is needed.
Dem, do you want to put the map at the top of the thread (replace the old one)? Okieman 18:22
take out all the maps except this latest one……maybe you don’t want to do it that way though.
I highly recommend taking a look at the spreadsheet Michelle in OK put together and Dude uploaded on the ftp site (link at 12:56). It fleshes out the numbers in the map and shows relationship data as well as age, tamiflu treatment…etc.
While it is info gathered from media sources and there are gaping holes concerning what we do not know (and probably will not be told) it still gives one a general sense of how this is playing out in Indonesia.

I’m sorry, but why is this not being updated? Is nothing happening, or are people just not reporting, for whatever reason. Is the map at the top updated? I feel lost and I bet I’m not the only one.
ColdClimatePrepper – at 21:13
I believe the map at the top is accurate up to Sep 2, and then there are the spreadsheets posted at the ftp site
Dude – at 12:56 Spreadsheet version 1 & 2 on ftp://www.singtomeohmuse.com username wikimember, pass wiki123
Now they are working on the latest and probably going to upload some new files when they are ready. If you are not sure, go to the longer thread here
Please note that Michelle in OK and I intend to post updates of the spreadsheet and map (via Dude and the mods) every three or four days. If the number of new suspect cases decrease it could be once a week. If the number of cases increase it could be once a day. Please refer to the Indonesia Outbreak thread for day-to-day news, and here for a summary of that news when it becomes available. The quickest way to see if an update to the summary has occured is to look at the date shown at the top of the map at the first of this thread. Also, FloridaGirl has indicated that she also has a spreadsheet she has put together. Hopefully, it will also be available soon.
We all have lives away from the FluWiki Forum, (at least I hope you do), so we have to fit this work into those busy lives. Please be patient if the summary does not appear as often as you would like. Rest assured that if cases start coming in fast and furious we are just as interested as you are to stay on top of them so we can understand what is happening. Let us hope this does not happen, but if it does, with everyones help (all the newshounds), hopefully we can at least get a glimpse of the truth as it unfolds.
A big thank you goes out to all of the newshounds that have sniffed out and gathered the news and gone to the trouble to get it translated. And a special thank you to Mamypoko in Malaysia for her human translation of the news (versus us having to use Toggletext). Her insights are invaluable. Thank you.

I sent the Excel doc and Power point to Demfromct last night. (very late). I will try to update it every few days also, as new and relevant information becomes available. At least through September… After I start classes again, I will be sorely limited on time.
It has truly helped that the Indonesion investigator group trys to be accrurate and points out clarifications.
Thanks again…
note the new map as of 9/4
demfromct@earthlink.net
nothing recieved as of yet. ;-(
DemfromCT,
Got your email… Thanks for sending the excel and Power Point on to Dude for posting.
Maybe for those who are visual; they can point out any Inconsistencies in the data. I am a stickler for trying to get it right. Any ideas /corrections / comments are welcome.
